Parking Sensors with Aftermarket Stereo

Hi all,

I'm planning on putting an aftermarket stereo in my 2002 X5 with standard audio (without nav or DSP).

My ultimate goal is to add a stereo with wireless Apple CarPlay and rear-view camera capabilities and retain parking sensors (PDC) and steering wheel controls.

Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX
or
Alpine iLX-107

My question is what do I need to maintain the factory PDC beeps?

These are the components I will be using for the install:

Metra 95-9308B Dash Kit for: BMW X5 2000-2006 Double DIN

Crux SWRBM-57K Wiring Interface

Scosche SLC4 Line Output Converter

Metra 40-EU10 Antenna Adapter

NATIKA Backup/Front View Camera

Thanks!
-Justin

It's a completely independent system. You won't have any issues. Has it's own speakers too.

What you WILL loose if you install one of those double-DIN units listed above is all access to control the OBC functions (setting the clock, checking fuel range, mileage computer etc.).

While you can still call these up to display on the dash (if you have the high spec. IKE/cluster) bia the BC button on the left stalk, you cannot manipulate the values (reset etc.).

A better route is to install a custom Android system and add the iBus Android App - this gives you access to these function AND much more.

Something like this - the Seicane S6902.

Much better fit and integration with existing interior too!

Thanks crystalworks! That's great to know. Do you have any feedback on my current stereo selection or the hardware for the install?

wpoll I agree. Ideally I wouldn't loose the OBC but having wireless Apple CarPlay is a feature I'm really looking for :/ I don't think Android systems I've seen on the forum have apple carplay?

There are a few Android systems that offer it (usually through an optional adapter).

The Avin Avant 3 is one example https://avinusa.com/avant-3-for-bmw-...on-system.html

Those seem to be via USB cable - OP wanted Apple CarPlay wirelessly. Not sure that exists in an Android system (yet).

Oops, I missed that. Carry on.

+1

And as it relates to the thread topic particularly, There is a setting in the iBus app that allows you to see on the dashboard MID the actual distance of the object that your PDC sensors are carrying on about.

It's ab the coolest thing ever. Along with the graduated beeping leading to a solid one, you actually see.. 36".. 23".. 12".. etc.. And it splits the display into front and rear at the same time. So frickin cool.

Dang, I really like the fact that it ties in with the OBC... I might be sold on the AVANT-3 unit to give up wireless apple carplay.

The unit is essentially plug and play right? Looks like they include the harnesses needed

:dunno: Haven't used that one.
I used generic Android radios in both the E46 and E53. I will in the E39s as well.
