A couple of final questions before pulling the cylinder head

Weather (and nerves) permitting I’m taking the cylinder head off my 3.0 M54 tomorrow. First timer...

I have the front exhaust manifold disconnected but not off. Going to try to take the head off with the rear manifold attached or at least get it up in the air enough to get on the bolts. I did a re-torque on the head bolts and 2 of them were loose but held torque to 50 ft lbs. Concerning but at the same time encouraging. Also found out that you kinda have to put your back in it to get to 50 ft lbs. I was trying to be careful not to go too far.

Haven’t decided what to do with the cams. Leaning toward pulling them in place to save weight but I’m a little unsure of the loosening procedure and the lifters coming out so I’m gonna sleep on it.

Wish me luck.....

Take photos along the way so you have a reference for where everything goes and keep bolts with parts and label everything. Don't tear it down more than necessary. Reducing weight is not a good reason. Good luck!

Thanks, taking quite a few pics and have little bags of fasteners and parts. I not usually all that organized but have been for this.

The machine shop I will use requires the cams to be removed so I need them out one way or another. Nervous about retiming but have the timing tools to get it done.

Thanks for the reply.
