4.8is ~ $15000. Maybe in 10 years it will be $25k. :D
A good one that will give you a year or two with no worries will be $10k-15k. Better to buy private seller than dealer as those are usually basket cases.
I would buy a $2800 one though just to see if I could fix it for less than $5000. Verify that before spending $$$ on parts though. A $7800 reliable 4.8is is pretty good value. If it ended up that during the evaluation the bill was reaching > $5000 to repair... I'd part it.
The e70 diesel is fairly fun to drive though... just not very "special" feeling if you get my drift. Sport package trucks drive really well... though I do prefer the handling in the 4.8is for sure.
