LOCKED OUT DEAD BATTERY HELP!! 2006 4.8is
gentlemen, I am locked out! I need some help battery died this morning due to extreme cold weather here in Alberta. I cannot use the key fob to unlock the doors since the battery is completely dead. The X5 door can unlock with the key but the carrer is stuck can't open the door due to it being frozen. Please someone help.

Heat gun on the lock mechanism to unfreeze the cylinder?
|
I used a blow dryer to heat up the lock mechanism I was hoping it would unfreeze it but it didn't work. The carrier handle is firm like something is holding it tight from inside.

Well, there is a solution... but it's not going to be fun in freezing temps. Maybe not even possible if the doors are frozen shut. At autozone (or whatever the Canadian equivalent if no AZ) you can find door poppers. It's basically an inflatable bag, a wedge, and a couple of long poles with a hook. You'll have to pry open the door with the wedge enough to slide the uninflated bag in. Then inflate the bag. This should crack the door open enough to use the hook to pull the door lock handle from the inside. We used to use them when the mechanics would lock keys in the cars at the shop.

Can you move the lock tumbler? If so, just turn it twice to unlock all doors or just hold it in the unlock position to open all windows.
This is why I hate the bean counters at BMW for only providing 1 lock cylinder. I guessed we're lucky to even get a lock cylinder these days? |

If you have a trailer hitch you can apply an external 12v source to the correct pins on the hitch connector to power the locks etc.

^THIS and the fact that door handles and carriers are just crap... your best bet would to do as CrystalWorks suggests |
No. I don't have OEM trailer hitch I wish!
the battery has made everything worse I jacked up the car in hope of connecting the 12v to the starter but there is no clear instructions where exactly I am supposed to hook the cable underneath to get a little bit of power to unlock the doors using the remote. |
