I didn't consider the PCV issue and at the moment, I probably won't be checking or looking too much into that. Ah yes, forgot to address the idea of doing the cut oil pan gasket method. I had originally considered it, but once I started getting into some of the disassembly, I thought everything was coming apart easily enough. I want to say the hardest part of the disassembly was removing the axles. My pry bars were too big for the amount of room I was working with underneath the car, but once I figured out some good leverage angles, I was able to pop them out from the oil pan somewhat easily enough. If I can remember correctly, once you get the axles out, it's just a matter of removing the 6 bolts holding the rest of the subframe on. Really a minor inconvenience at that point in my opinion. It apparently has worked and been faster for some of those who have done the cut method, but I think personally for me, it would have taken me more time trying to fiddle with everything in a much more limited amount of working room. Additionally, once I got the oil pan out, I noticed that a decent amount of old rubber gasket material had fallen into the oil pan. Enough to make me feel good that I did remove everything. Reading another thread, it looks like quite a few people have experienced old gasket material falling into the oil pan during removal as well. Only thing I think maybe I should have done that I forgot to do was to check the oil pump nut before reassembling everything. |
Good decision.
