X5 catches fire...!?
3 Attachment(s)
Anyone ever heard of a cabin fire in an e53 X5? :wow:
Someone I know here in NZ lost their LCI 3.0d recently after a fire in the cabin. Car had been sitting for 11 hours prior to fire, was locked and in a garage. Looking at the images below, my guess is the blower "resistor" went bad, was drawing a lot of power and got so hot it ignited either itself or something else under the dash. :dunno: Car is a write-off... :( |
Wow, that is not a common thing.

Unheard of. What a waste.

He should part it out, lights, engine, transmission, etc.

You'd like a fuse to blow and avoid that scenario.

I guess the fire *may* have started in the engine bay and entered the cabin by burning out the blower inlet etc. but from the description of the fire given by the owner (alarm set off, cabin full of smoke, no flames until door was opened...) it really sounds like it was isolated to the interior.
Yeah, Neil - you'd like like to think that fuses would prevent this!!! If I ever get the full story, I'l update the thread... |
Get the rims for me!!! Almost keen on whole car actually.. hhmmm..

It's a sad day anytime a E53 gets written off. My brother's E53 was written off about 12 months ago after hitting a kangaroo. Any damage to the front and the replacement cost of a broken xenon headlight or 2 inevitably leads to a write off. It didn't end well for the roo either.
