So about a few weeks ago I mention that I was investing in rims for the X5. Well, finally I received an e-mail this week telling me that they are ready... soo here are the only pics that I have of them. They should be here next week. I HOPE

crystalworks 03-07-2019 10:33 PM

Beautiful. Was wondering when you would get some news. Care to share specs on them? ;)

They're going to look great.

Thanks, fronts are 9 et 18 rear 10.5 et 24. they should be flush to the body of the X5. I will Post more pics once I receive them.

Edit: color is bronze burst

PropellerHead 03-08-2019 12:21 AM

Hawt!

But that last pic.. the close up? Man, it's like one of those pictures where you see the old woman or the young one in the same pic.. ya know those? It took me a legit 45 seconds *not* to see that center as WAY bowed *out*. Like so far out you couldn't get within a foot of a curb far out.

I just went back to look at it. They flipped inward, then outward.. Oooof.. I feel kinda woozy. When I see the pic the way they're *supposed* to look, they're gonna look awesome.

Emory39 03-08-2019 12:51 AM

Lol. Thats the pics the guy send me, and i didn't eventhough of flipping them... will post more pics when they are.

I rolled 315's with no flares for something like 6 years on my 3.0. I'm gonna run 'em again- and flare-less- on the 4.4. :nanana: Cause, well... I like them big meaty grippers hangin out the side.

Kinda makes me think of an old stud bull... .swingin' left to right..

Makes me think truck nuts when I see stuff like that. :D Reminds me of the truck owners who run the mega wide wheels in the rear with super low offsets so they stick out 10" past the fenders. Not my bag.

EODguy 03-16-2019 11:20 AM

Maybe but having tiny wheels on an X5 doesn't look good to me, like a fat girl wearing flip-flops.

Agreed. Now I need to buy spacers for when I have the Winter setup on.

bcredliner 03-16-2019 05:44 PM

I would start with a lowering kit. That will help fill the wheel wells and lower the center of gravity for better handling. If that doesn't get the look you want I would purchase spacers to set the wheels out. I wouldn't go so far that tires stick out past the fenders. If you go too far the tires will be throwing debris up on the fenders. Spacers will also help fill the wheel wells and improve handling because of the wider stance. Suggest the spacers that bolt in place and come with longer lug bolts. Lowering and/or spacers will change alignment so you will need to have that done. An offset difference on the new rims will also change alignment.

Emory39 03-16-2019 07:17 PM

Thanks for the input but, as for lowering spring. I am looking at the H & R wheels spacer is not an option as my tires all the way to the fender. As for alignment needed after wider tires I'm not sure.

Well, I don't remember that the 315's looked *that* wide, but I do remember that they were more pronounced on the regular rear valence and flare-free arches. I even added spacers to the 4.8is so they'd stick out that much *further* than the wheels alone. I gotta have a pic of those things on the 3.0 somewhere...

Edit: Here we go- this is a good shot meant to show another adventure, but you can see the wheel width pretty well.
https://xoutpost.com/attachments/tes...offroad09a.jpg
Lookin for these also made me remember why I never did flares on the 3.0- despite my preference against them. Don't you need the 4.8is rear bumper to meet the flares? They'd look pretty silly if they just ended at the bumper. Am I thinking ab this right or can you actually order lower flares to meet the arched wheel flares?
https://xoutpost.com/attachments/tes...diamarissm.jpg
Here's a shot of a stock 4.8is with 315's and flares. Even though I only recently became a stance gnurd, they need spacers to my eyes. You guys? (Oh, and don't get me started on Estoril LCII- Lawdy :wow:) So, where does it end? Add flares to cover the rubber, but then spacers to push 'em out? I mean, that's what mine has now, and I *love* it. But I don't think I'll start the path with the white one.
https://xoutpost.com/attachments/tes...-link-rear.jpg
Here's another shot of a 4.4 with 315's on 87's. I gotta tell ya.. I *like* it. I can't wait to get mine in and mounted:
https://xoutpost.com/attachments/tes...nk-noflare.jpg
All of this made me wonder, Emory: Are those wheels in the stock offset? I don't really *know* if my 132 replicas are or not. Perhaps they don't stick out as far bc of that? :dunno: Anyway, I finally found Bridgestone's newest tire for the 20" 132's I have. They'll be the 1st set I put on. Steamrollers, here we come! :mmm:

dkl 03-17-2019 11:28 AM

The X looked pigeon toed in these 2 shots

His rears are et24 Prop. So they stick out another 6mm from factory. Not much, but it makes a small difference. A drop should improve the look substantially. I think I'd pursue that before the flares, though I much prefer an X with flares to one without.

BTW Emory, if you do get flares, you could easily run a 15mm spacer to bring them flush with the flares. If you choose to forgo the flares, a drop may give you a perfect look as it will increase your camber in the rear and bring the top of the tire in.

That 1/2" can make a huge difference visually. He may not need spacers for the flares with that bit of extra offset.

I had some wheels that were the same offset in the front as the rear. I just couldn't stand the fronts past the wheel well. I had them less than two days. Mounted my other 20's on and sold them.

Whatabout those flares? I looked at ETK to find the parts for a lower flare, but it was cornfusin'. Is there a bottom flare for the rear bumper that meets the wheel arch flare? Is the rear 4.8is trim just some plastic that stick onto the OE bumper? That could be compelling as a short cut to the visual mods. I do like the 4.8is bumpers. On Alpine white, it could be holy hell awesome. The back I could do pretty easily if it's small parts, but we've got to get some rock chips on this front one, 1st. ;)

I run 11" et24 in the rear with 325/35/20's and needed the 15mm spacer to be flush with the flares on the lower EHCII suspension of the 4.8. Now, with the aero kit they stick out a tiny bit as the IS flares are wider it seems by maybe 2-3mm.

The rear flares can be retrofitted to the rear bumper I believe if you are willing to do some trimming. See here where the slits for the flares go into the IS bumper. Some time with a hot razor or dremel will sort it on a 3.0 or 4.4 bumper. Now that I think about it... I think there is a retrofit DIY on here or one of the other BMW forums.

Overboost 03-18-2019 09:42 AM

I just bought a used 4.8 iS bumper off fleabay to get the factory slotting for the lower flares when I did my conversion. It was a little pricey though, a little over $2K all in. $500 for fleabay bumper with shipping, $1000 in upper and lower flares and $600 for paint.

That being said, every time I look back at her, it brings a smile to my face.
