Thanks Guys-I am inclined to just put the chain back on, get it somewhat snug, and do a compression test and maybe even a leak down. Just trying to avoid throwing money and LOTS of work to do the guides and than have issues afterwards and realizing I should have just found another motor. The worse part of this project is, I have to remove the left front axle and differential to remove the left lower timing cover! The alternator/oil line bracket is bolted behind the diff, stupid stupid design

I helped with the alt bracket gasket. That is a moronic design. Sorry BMW. $4 part and at least 4 hours of labor could be double. It's totally DIY doable just plan on taking two days so you hurt less afterwards. Also, loosen an engine mount and lift the engine and/or pull the CV axle out of the hub so you can move it to make more room.
