Intake air temperature sensor
2 Attachment(s)
Hi all, so I was playing around with my odb2 scanner (iCarsoft 910 ii) for another problem and came across what looked to be a fault code with the air intake temp sensor. My model is the E53 2005 4.4i sport v8. The images below show the DTC fault code and the second image is from live datastream which I assume is showing the temp reading for this part. Anyway, I am trying to locate where it is. Is this part of the MAF. ie does the MAF sensor do the intake temp as well. Or, is it at a hard to get at location?
Hope someone can make a comment. regards |
Intake air temperature sensor
I think I found the part online so it should be not too difficult to find. I thought it was calculated from the MAF but now leaning toward a separate part.

All the part diagrams I have seen give it as a separate part and as you say is quite easy and a cheap job. But I am finding it hard to track the exact position for my model. Maybe somebody out there is familiar. I did see one diagram where the sensor was pointing up under the intake manifold. There are diy videos on other models where it is pointing down. In mean time will keep researching. Thanks Andrew for your comment.

Ok so that wasn't easy to find. I found quicky for the M54 right in the center of the intake manifold.
The N62 it seems as suspected incorporates the IAT into the MAF. Makes for a pricy fix for a temp sensor that should be $40. There is a kit to relocate the IAT to a better spot that conveniently splits the job of the IAT and MAF which cold save a pretty penny if the IAT died but the MAF is working http://bd8ba3c866c8cbc330ab-7b26c6f3...stallation.pdf |

I can observe this same effect on my 3.0d when scanning it when the engine is hot (after a run). Just sayin… ;) |

Thanks wpoll and everyone for comments. I had the dreaded failsafe program come up this moring. Its not nice to have this happen in peak traffic. I think it might be too coincidental with the error message perhaps. I have had the 4x4 warning come up before but neather with the failsafe program (image below). I got to work with my fingers crossed and when I get home I will put the obd2 on it again.

I don't think the 51 is the problem. The computer is reporting not plausible. Not shown is the snapshot of the value that brought out that error.

Ok, jumped back in the car to head home and no warning lights. I think this may be the start to end for the MAF. I notice some others have had the failsafe and MAF issue.
