2005 4.4 Dinan Exhaust - POS
Just had the local BMW dealer install a Dinan exhaust "system" on my 05. What a joke. $2600 Cdn (+installation) gets you 2 mufflers (i.e., not a full cat-back system) and some chrome exhaust tips. In retrospect, I now know why Dinan just shows a picture of the exhaust tips....because they are embarassed at charging what they do for this equipment. To add insult to injury, the install requires you to cut off the old mufflers so that you can then clamp on the new "high performance, Dinan engineered" units.....nice. Oh, and the much touted perfromance lift.....doubt it. My own fault, but I still feel ripped off.

Hey Blue, welcome to the board.
I'm not sure where you are going with your comment about cutting off the OEM mufflers. That's the only way you can install any new muffler, be it from Dinan or any one else. I won't go into the debate about Dinan products, some like them some don't. That's a big chunk of change for mufflers. Which dealer? Calgary BMW or BMW Gallery? |
I too have the Dinan Mufflers on my 4.4 and like them but i do agree they are expensive. And also the exhaust tips are not chrome they are stainless steel and part of the muffler not just a slip on tip. But i hate the fact you have to cut the old one off and slip on the new muffler. I recently damaged my mufflers and had to buy new oem mufflers and dinan mufflers. i just think its stupid but all after market companies do this know.

I do not think all A/M systems are hack and clamp versions (e.g., Remus?). Besides, what does it really take to add 4 feet of pipe and a flange? I also realize that the tips are stainless, but the chrome comment seemed more in keeping with the tenor of my rant. Please excuse my adoption of poetic license whilst dissing their misleading and (in my mind) substandard product.

All major aftrmrkt exhaust systems are cat-back. I have the Eisenmann race system which is a direct replacement for stock exhaust. The Dinan sure sounds nice though.

:iagree: Mine does sound awesome. Given the price of some baseball cards, I guess I spent the same amount clothes pinning them to my bike to get the 'cool' sound of them being flapped by the spokes when I was young. :tsk:
     |

I havent installed Dinan or Eisenmman exhausts but all the Supersprint and Remus I have installed on X5s and other cars are straight bolt on jobs,as they should be since they have been designed specifically for that car and the cost is therefore higher than if one was to buy some of their Universal mufflers which are obviously cheaper but then you would have to cut and weld and pay for the extra labour of fitting! It is acceptable to have to cut-off your oem mufflers ,if in my case your want to install the oem 4.8 mufflers on to a 3.0 Diesel! |

Well I think everyone knows anything BMW and esspecially DINAN would be over priced, so I don't feel bad for you there. Also, didn't you take a look at the actual product you were buying before having it done? |
