RED light district = Yaw sensor?

Hi all

Can anyone provide some thoughts?

My wife has handed the 4.8is over to me to drive for a while as she's gotten fed up.

It has a red TPMS light on all of the time and no other lights or codes.

Air suspension works fine and is levelling straight away at start up EXCEPT if it's parked on a side slope ie one side of the car is lower than the other. Then the system stays asleep. If I raise the car with the switch it immediately goes up and after driving off settles back to the correct level.

I've got no codes other than the EBV brake force distribution listed.

I also have some drive train 'grinding' noise coming at 55km from the front end and which is particularly loud at all speeds after going around a right hand corner and accelerating ie under load. I'm thinking this is the guibo but not sure why it would throw a light.

I've done a search and read lots of older threads but can't find a definitive answer..

Any thoughts?

Grinding could be wheel bearing. Or since you have tpms set, maybe you lost a wheel speed sensor. Either way, I hope you scanning it with Inpa or dis or some other bmw scanner.

^^This...

Foxwell or ista-d, etc. is pretty much mandatory.

Have you checked each tire's pressure to determine if one or more of the tires is low? Just to clarify...the TPMS and the SLS (self leveling system) are two different things and have two different warning lights.

What type of TPMS system do you have? Do you have the type with sensors in each wheel (RDC/direct)...or do you the Flat Tire monitoring system that uses the ABS brake sensors (RPA/indirect) system?

If you have the RDC/direct system...the sensors are powered by a battery inside of them. If you have a TPMS warning light on...and all of the tires have the same pressure (one is not lower than the recommendation on the door jamb label etc)...then I'd look at how old the sensors are. It may be time to replace them if their battery has started to give up.

Thanks for the responses!

I’ve checked and there are no codes. Only the brake force distribution as already mentioned.

I don’t have any sensors on the wheels and I’ve tried the resets as mentioned above. Tire pressures are all good.

The red light is on as soon as it starts so I’m thinking it is a sensor or module of some sort....

I had the YAW sensor. Replaced, still was shot. My ABS module was fried.
