License plate bulb error due to backup camera install

Hey all!

For whatever reason, when I installed a backup camera into one of my license plate light locations on my E46, I never got an error thrown about the bulb. (as one would expect)

The E53 though DOES and its driving my wife insane. I am sure a resistor or something would do it, but that is the limit of my electrical knowledge. Are there any suggestions, examples, or DIY that would help me out here?

Thanks!

Code out voltage monitoring and cold check for the license plate lights. No resistor needed. You would need Carly, NCSexpert, or some other coding method.

Or, you could use the resistor but they get hot so keep them away from wiring and plastic.

Fantastic, I had hoped that coding would take care of it, but Bimmercode wont talk to E models. If I can fix it with Carly, that would be awesome.

Yep, Carly is what I used to code mine for LEDs everywhere but the brake lights.

I used pa soft to code out voltage checking.

PA soft? Carly is pretty expensive for the app.. does it require its dedicated OBD BT or can any model (that I already have) work?

I dont know PA?

You can buy it off ebay for under $20. Requires a laptop computer and comes with the cable.

It allows you to do a ton of stuff such.

Its called bmwscanner too.

I don't recommend Carly if you are a new customer. I was an early adopter so get to use it for life (or until they change their policy ) without further expense.

PA Soft is probably your best bet as Crowz said.
