Dash code

Over the past few weeks when I go to start the car it asks for a code on the dash. It has started to do this more and more frequently. I know what the code is but why could it be doing this?

Low battery. Check your charging circuit and to check if your system goes into sleep mode as that can draw down your battery.

Hi thanks for reply. My battery is 13.7v while engine is idling. Is that considered low?

I forgot to mention that it starts fine in the mornings, and the code only comes up usually after 2nd attempted start later in the day.

Do you have navigation?

If so, there is a code there to start the car. Maybe that’s what’s enabled. I forget exactly where this is. But I set it once. Then promptly removed it cause it was a pain in the ass.

ok so i checked the volts before starting the car and it showed 11.6 volts at position 1, and then dropped to 11.3 volts when turned to position 2.

ok, so just had the charging system tested at a shop. The battery is apparently fine, but on their computer it said there is 'Excessive Ripple'. Anyone know what that means?

Possible faulty alternator passing AC volts which will kill any battery you have in there and any other sensitive electronic equipment is also at risk.

Probably lost a diode in the rectifier/regulator... I think it can be replaced independently of the entire alternator. :dunno:

not sure if just the regulator can be replaced on its own with the water cooled alternators?

I'm not sure either but I do see the regulator-only part listed the 4.6iS and 4.8iS cars.... so I assume it can be R&R'ed.

What version of the ibus app are you running? Some people have been complaining of a “code” bug. Thankfully I have not had it. Do you follow the Facebook page?

I only use it for the groups. You can still access the wiki page through the app website. Wanna guess what happened to me today? & I never have used a code on my car....
