PDC Sensor Cover
Hi All - apologies in advance it I'm posting this in the wrong place.
My e53 is a 2002 4.4i in Steel Gray Metallic. I'm missing one of the plastic coverings that go over our rear PDC sensors. Specifically, it's the inner left cover. For clarity, we're talking about part number: 51128268367 The number above links to the parts diagram - number 6 on the illustration. So I'm missing this thing. And I cannot find it online for sale for anything less than 30 bucks. Which, I'm sorry, just seems wrong. I can literally buy the ultrasonic sensor itself for 5 dollars. But this plastic doohickey is 30 plus shipping. Anybody on here have experience with these? I called a dealer and they quoted me 40 plus tax. Which is...again...really? Before I go to the junkyard hoping to get lucky, can someone tell me I'm just looking in the wrong place? Anything. Just talk me off this ledge. I can't even find a busted looking used one to repaint. I'm totally open to someone saying "Suck it up and pay the 30 bucks, BMW Boy". Would just rather hear it here first before shelling out. |
If you are seriously opposed to spending $30 on a repair of your BMW, I don't know what to say other than hold on, $300 days are coming...
I would think the part you need can be found at a wrecking yard for about $10 |
You won't find them used as they are typically sold with the bumper cover by breakers on Ebay and other places. Just pony up the $30 and move on. There are MUCH worse gouges for BMW. Example, I just bought an E61 5 series wagon and it needs the hydraulic lift strut for the rear hatch. BMW is the only brand offered and lowest price I've found is $922!!! So yeah... it could be worse. ;)

Yup. I feel you.
Believe me, I've sunk some proper dough into this car - from coolant system to subframe to timing cover gasket and plenty more. It's a project car for me, straight hobby vibes. It's ongoing, and I'm not opposed. I guess I was mostly responding to the fact that the other two components of the sensor, including the actual sensor are so much less than this little piece of plastic. Figured I was going about it wrong. Anyway. Thanks for the POV, I'll bite the bullet and buy it. |
