audio system completely dead

4 Attachment(s)
Hi,

Bought a project 2002 4.6is which amongst other things has completely deas audio dsp system. The previous owner had god knows what aftermaket stuff in there. I was told the bm54 radio model had been partly submerged in the spare wheel compartment and that it would fine when repalced...yeah right.

I did replace it with a second hand unit and I do sometimes hear the radio for a while when starting up but have no controll over the rest.

As in the navi screen is blank and without power as is all the stuff in the left side luggage compartment.
I have checked the fuses in the glove compartment and the the right rear luggage compartment. They're fine.
Could the blue relay be bad, how to check?

I am missing at least two units in the spare wheel compartment. Anyone know what they may be? Please see pics.

Yes, I know I could through in a chinese system and be done with it. But would like to resurect the system if possible.

The wiring looks a little scary honestly. Is that duct tape? :wow: The blue and white connectors look like they could have been for a missing navigation computer as I do see a ibus wire (white with a gray trace and a yellow band) in there.

It is probably time to look into the aftermarket Android head units to replace your system. They are self contained and don't need any of the components in the rear other than the amplifier. More features than the factory system ever offered and the cost is probably going to be far less.

Yes, you are right ofcourse, just not into the social media apps as comparrd to the spund quality itself.

What units (makes and models) would represent the best value for money nowadays?

Since you have DSP your options may be limited for a simple plug and play. I have DSP and went with the Avin Avant-4 and works really good and the sound quality through the DSP is even better than stock. One thing you will need if you decide to keep the DSP system is the iBus adapter and app with the aftermarket head unit that sends the signals to the DSP to keep it happy.

There are several threads you can read and decide which head unit is right for you. There are 10" tablet screens and some that look more like the factory unit, it comes down to user preference.

One last reminder, the "social media apps" you mention are available but I don't use them either. I use apps that provide functionality like:
  • Backup camera
  • Dash cam recorders that provide front and rear recording at all times with lane departure and collision avoidance warnings
  • Voice command navigation
  • Bluetooth A2DP streaming music
  • Wireless Car Play/Android Auto
  • The ability to program features into the BMW modules through the iBus

One of our members actually has his X5 linked to his Smart Home and can turn on entry lights, inside lighting, disable alarm system, set climate and open garage door from miles away before arriving home. You are basically limited to your imagination with the Android system and functionality.

Let us know if we can help, a few of us have several different systems we know and can assist you with.

Many things could go wrong to make ur sound system dead. Have you reset the oem headunit?

Ehm...no. How does one do that?

The car sprung a fuel leak and had to be towed to a garage, so haven't had the opportunuty to do anything on this issue.

You can try unplugging the head unit by taking it out and unplugging the connectors on the back.

Do the same with the BM53 and the navigation unit.

Check your fuses as well.

Ok. will do.
The fuses are ok...

There's also the oem amplifier that could go bad. The logic 7 amps do go bad and those are hard to troubleshoot.
