Sunroof Drains

So we've had nothing but rain this year and the wife's X5 had puddles on the front floor mats.Watched some youtube on clearing the sunroof vent tubes and then finally got a day that I could check it out.Nothing really visual you could see from the opening so I tried the wire down the tube.I actually used a heavy gauge weed eater cord.I could get maybe a foot and a half of cord in and that was it.So OK I take the A pillar trim off to access the tubes.Low and behold both the tubes are kinked right in half.Exactly how would those tubes get kinked like that.If I didn't know better I would guess that it was done on purpose. The tubes had to have been pulled up out of the dash pass through tube at least 2 to 3 inches to fold them in half.Easy enough fix but now my carpet is soaked and there's really only one way to correct that Pull the carpet right out and hang it up.Big job and will take forever to dry.Not happy.

if you own a dehumidifer you could dry out the carpet without pulling it out.

It may take a few days

It's actually the insulation that holds all the water.I think I'd be to old to enjoy it by the time a dehumidifier dried it.It takes forever for them to dry out when they're out and hanging up.Our bodyshop at the dealer used to do them once in a while.

It definitely wouldn't hurt to try it anyway.Especially if I could lift the carpet up in it's place.

I had the same thing happen last winter in our other vehicle, 2 inches of water on drivers side

dried out in 3 days

the other option might be putting the car in a paint heating booth, I did that back in the 90's on or volvo

There may be some urgency to the dryout. I believe mold can set in after a couple of days, and if that happens, it is there until the car burns to the ground some day. The concern is for porous things, especially those with organic content. Fiber, wood, for example. Solid plastic, metal, are OK and can be cleaned of mold.

Dehumidifying is good, but heat + forced convection will get the moisture out a lot faster. Removing and hanging vertically, squeezing it out, direct sunlight, etc. are all good too.

So if it were me, I would do everything I could (e.g., all of the above, if possible) do to get things dried out ASAP.

Find a sunny day and dry out your carpet and underlining foam etc!
