side emblems

Im just wondering if the side emblems (3.0) are just stuck on with the adhesive tape or if there is a hole behind them.

Whats the easiest way to remove them?

Thunder22 02-08-2006 01:46 PM

they're just adhesive.

Get a length of fishing line and work it in behind the emblem. you can heat them up with a hair dryer to make it easier.

Jeremy 02-08-2006 01:47 PM

They are stick-on and a hair dryer will aid in prying them off.

don't try to pry them, you could damage the paint.

Just slide some fishing lien behind them and work it back and forth and they'll come right off. It's an old Corvette trick for removing body-side molding from Z06's.

LeMansX5 02-08-2006 02:04 PM

A good dental floss will also work. ;)

For some, it's the easiest way to upgrade a 3.0 to a 4.4i for pocket change :) :) (j/k)

f355b 02-08-2006 04:20 PM

i hope not!! thats lame what about the fact it has two exhaust pipes not four?

i was just making a joke... there have been worse "upgrades" like the guy who "upgraded" his honda to a 745 :)

f355b 02-08-2006 04:49 PM

i still wonder why you would take them off? i hope to replace with new ones

Good call. This is the best way to do it!
To clean the adhesive off ,use a degreaser.

maybe he's going for the clean look :dunno:

soccerjunky 02-08-2006 08:38 PM

rip em off

just rip em off and then use a little adhesive remover. They are attached with a 3m spongy like material.. just be careful not to bend the metal part back against the paint

It is a cleaner look, IMO. As a side bonus, it makes it easier to wash and wax.

They may change the exhaust with the 4.4 or 4.8 exhaust for a little more than pocket change. Then someday, somebody like me will race them and their X5 will be all huffed and puffed. :jk:

Actually I would. I'm not fond of those side emblems at all, whether they were 4.8is or whatever I'd take them off. Interestingly, in Europe you can order your M3, M5, etc with badge deleted for no charge. They're not big on advertising.

mdk5623 02-09-2006 12:59 AM

Nice Gresch! ....remember to follow the floss with wd-40 on a cotton rag...It'll remove the adhesive left over (as well as any wax....) ...ah badgeless....

f355b 02-09-2006 09:18 AM

Yer okay iam sure you would remove the 4.8is emblem! anyway i just wanted to know why i hope its not to replace with 4.4 or 4.8 if its just to have a clean look each to there own i think they are small enough not to be a problem. would you remove the X5 emblem from the back to? i guess if you took all off it may look clean but iam sure thats not the reason.

Actually you're right. I'd buy a dozen more 4.8is badges and put them all over. I might actually get a massive 4.8is decal and plaster it on the side like I saw on some knucklehead did with "Hemi" on his Dodge Magnum. :tsk: Gosh, how would you feel about the members here who have had the balls to retrofit a 4.8is or 4.6is spoiler kit on their non-4.8/4.6 X5's?

Contrary to what you and some others might think, some people don't care to show off that they have the biggest and best of the range and don't feel like crying at night because he/she doesn't own the best of the best. Yes, I am taking issue with your suggestion that people remove the 3.0 or 4.4 badge because they feel inferior rather than wanting a cleaner look. So you're better than me because you have a 4.8is and a Ferrari F355. I admit it. That's just great.

There's always someone with bigger and better toys and we all just try to enjoy what we have and enjoy others' pride in their rides, whatever they are. Hell, we have many members here who don't even own X5's. They're all welcome just the same.

f355b 02-10-2006 09:02 AM

WOW..........take a pill. try reading the post again i dont care someone is removing the emblem, if its the cleaner look they are going for if thats what they want to do. i bought the 4.8is because i liked it and am very lucky. if someone wants to put the kit on there car thats fine by me i dont care hey it looks very nice. i would hope that they dont put the 4.8is emblem on as well but each to there own. it wasnt me who said they maybe replacing it with a 4.4 or 4.8 anyway its no big deal. iam not better than you never said i was iam just very lucky.

Let's give the original poster a chance to state the reason why he/she wants to debadge. Trying to guess what he will do or hope he doesn't replace with a 4.8 badge is silly. Like PNG said there'll always be bigger fish in the sea.

f355b 02-10-2006 09:34 AM

I asked the question why but didnt get an answer. i was just interested why someone would take them off they are small and really dont seem to distract from the overall look of the car. someone else then said maybe to replace with 4.4 etc..... if someone whats to do that so be it I JUST THINK ITS LAME and we are not saying thats why this guy wanted to know. who cares about bigger fish as long as your happy with what you have, am i happy.

broknlgs24 02-10-2006 09:55 AM

i don't get y it's so hard to imagine someone
wanting to de-badge for a cleaner look. my
previous 4Runner had 3 badges on the rear hatch.
to me, it looked as if Toyota just threw them on
w/o any thought as to how it looked. i de-badged
simply for a cleaner look. i wasn't trying to fool
anyone into thinking i had the Limited Edition.

My wife and I were talking about the challenge of debating via a forum--sometimes very casual remarks or points can resonate beyond their intent. The give and take of talking in person is lost...In any event, a friend of mine came by my office last week to show off his new Audi A4/S...his family is big into cars and the first thing they do is de-badge or re-badge...it has never ocurred to me to debadge, but it can be a very clean look...the X5 comes in what I call Residential, Commercial, and Industrial strength; they all get us from point A to B and except for folks here, 99% of the world does not know the difference...

SyndicateGt 02-10-2006 07:58 PM

OK here is a question. I like the clean de-badge look myself, alot of European cars are like that, but what if you car is 3 years old like mine. When you de-badge it will the paint be faded and the old badge still be visible because of that?

I had a black Volvo V70R a couple of cars back and removed the badges to retrofit side markerlights and there was no fading at year three...I suppose you could compound the area.

I took my 3.0D emblems off!Maybe if I had a 4.8is ,I wouldnt?
I remember in the early 80s I had a company E30 316i and took the emblem off and stuck on a 325i one!No longer had an inferiority complex!

Alot of Merc owners do the same. Removing all of the badges including the rears. I does make it look very clean.

I am going to get the 4.8is emblem from the dealer, throw away the "is " and add the "D" that I took off from my 3.0D emblems and I will have the first 4.8D.
Bet I will have more torque than your 5.0i?

There's a guy around town here that has a current style Corvette. Apparently he likes it so much he bought a bunch more Corvette emblems, and stuck them EVERYWHERE on the car. My wife even laughs when she sees it! I'll have to get a picture of it for you guys!
