2004 X5 4X4 Warning Light

Help all, I've got an X5 that I just replaced the lower oil pan, had the front end jacked up for about a week waiting for parts. All went together well. Started it up and got an immediate 4X4 warning light. Drove it for a bit, it reset once with the DSC working etc. Then it quit again. Any advice on troubleshooting would be appreciated!

Only the 4x4 light ? No abs etc? What code before you cleared?

4X4

I was told it showied no there codes. The only other possible contributor was a faulty RR Brake Pad sensor that I replaced. I'm getting an OBDII reader, more to follow.

After replacing brake pad sensor you need to reset the computer.

Thanks Andrew, what is the best method for resetting the computer?

Is the brake pad indicator light on the dash lit? Turn key to position 1 for 30 seconds before starting will clear the fault entry in RAM. The light should go out.

kezman5 07-16-2019 10:12 AM

Got into the reset menu and now I'm getting a code SIA: 4095 1

Brake pad indicator is out, one victory!

kezman5 07-16-2019 03:17 PM

I just bought my own OBDII scanner and indeed no codes are present. The 4 X 4 light remains on with the DSC button inop. I believe the SIA code is related to service interval. All else on the car is clean except the 4X4 light. ????

What scanner did you buy? Most generic scanners will only read faults in the DME. Your problem may be in the ABS module which isn't being scanned.

The SIA number isn't an error - its the number of litre of fuel to be consumed before the next indicated service interval - in this case the next Oil Service/Inspection I/Inspection II is due in 4095 litres (~1077gals or ~15,000miles).

It also looks like you have just reset this service indicator - and I'm guessing you didn't mean to do so. The reset in the SIA menu is SOLELY for resetting the SIA once you have completed an Oil Service/Inspection I/Inspection II.

Same problem,
a week ago 4x4 light appear. I stop the car, do the full left and full right wheel calibration and 4x4 light disappear.

Yesterday, again the light, calibration solved again but 5 minutes later 4x4 light on again.
Now It not reset the light with the calibration wheel anymore.
Dont know If is because that, but the last two times appear when do thigh corners in low speed.

Checked for codes? Might have a failing (failed) SAS... :dunno:

I have a "offered" obd2 adapter from eonon that I think is poor, and obd scan " not find errors"
I try "motor data obd" and nothing too. Reccomend other program?? To android mobile??

A generic ODB code reader will not scan BMW-specific items, like the SAS. You need a laptop with at least BMW Scanner 1.4 or better yet, INPA or DIS. Another option is a handheld scanner like a Foxwell etc.

Download Torque Pro as it will work on your android and is perfect for the quick check/real time reading and resets although you should have a Foxwell NT-510 or NT-520 as part of your kit anyway.

Will Torque Pro show BMW SAS codes? I doubt it but maybe you have more experiance with that tool than I do.... I thought it only showed generic OBD codes mostly related to emissions)...

andrewwynn 07-21-2019 01:42 AM

Will not read most of the BMW modules. The "second level" stuff won't scan with basic scanners that's why I have foxwell nt510

I had this warning when my left front air strut started to fail, and confirmed the bag was leaking. So perhaps check for that too IF you have air suspension.

Make sure none of the level sensors flipped or broke apart

X5 4X4 Warning Light

Sorry for there delay, it took some time to get the correct OBDII reader. I'm not near any dealers or mechanics that work on BMWs. The new reader gave me two codes:

D35B present (both of these are in red)
DSC: No message (DSC sensor 0CB)

5DEB not present (again both in red)
DSC: Insignificant. clear fault memory

Again, sorry for the delay but had to have the new sensor shipped to me.
THANKS FOR THE HELP.

Sounds like it's reporting it cannot see a sensor eg wheel sensor.

Can you read wheel speeds (I can never remember which module to find but think on my foxwell I found in abs module).

Odds are good it's disconnected wires in the abs module there is a design defect in the bond wires.

kezman5 07-29-2019 07:55 AM

Will check it out and report back in...

Thank You very much!
