Valve Cover Gasket Rep

1 Attachment(s)
Hi Everyone. Working on replacing my valve cover gaskets and on the left side of the vehicle, there is a tube/hose like that goes over the valve cover and I can seem to figure how to move it out of the way. I have attached a picture.

Can anyone tell me what this is and how to move it out of the way so I can unbolt the valve cover?
thanks

Looks like an M62 issue. I only know about my N62 :(

I would guess it is an electrical wire ( ground / positive ) that needs to be disconnected or slacked out of the way to get the valve cover off. Any M62 guys out there care to elaborate?

It is a long while since I took that off my e53 (not yet re-assembled...) but I think it is a 12V main power going to alternator or starter or both.

That is the alternator cable. Disconnect it at the terminal on the bulkhead (by your brake booster).

Half Moon Seals

Thanks for the replies. When putting the valve cover back on, can someone tell me how the two half-moon seals are supposed to seat?

Much appreciated

Thanks

I put a few strategically placed dots of silicone red on my valve cover and installed the gasket to the cover and let it tac up before trying to install the VC back on the car - makes it WAY easier as the gasket will stay with the VC bs flop everywhere while you’re trying to work.

BMW calls for RTV at each half moon. Best practice but it can be done without. If you following the correct torquing order on the bolts the half moons shouldn’t be an issue. You can feel if they are seated correctly.
