was looking for an oem replacement, but they are not easy to find and/or expensive. I was thinking of welding in an aftermarket cat, but I want to make sure I get one that meets the OEM filtering as to prevent a CEL. Anyone have any experience or recommendations for a brand, or grade cat that would fit the bill? Thanks!

I would definitely use aftermarket. I saw a YouTube video how to weld in a replacement. Maybe you can ask a muffler shop about what model of cat can handle the x5
