Is this transmission symptom a problem?
 

03’ 3.0 has a delay finding gear when first starting up. In other words, I can back down the driveway, 100 ft or so, and when I shift into drive, there is a slight delay in going into gear. If I drive it and make a few stops there is no delay. Overnight, second or two delay.

Had this happen to me on my 03 330xi I found it to be low transmission fluid.

Probably is low on trans fluid, like ttomtt said.


Out of curiosity, if you let it warm up to operating temperature, put your foot on the brake and cycle through the gears before you back out, does it hesitate when you put it into drive then? Probably the fluid expanding as it warms up, building more pressure in the valve body, cleaning up the delayed engagement. Sitting over night allows it to cool, which lowers the pressure the next morning causing the lag - until it warms up again.


EDIT: At least that's the cheapest scenario...
