GOT HER BACK GUYS!

The rod bearings were caught right on time.

New arms and bushings front and rear, new tires and alignment.

Everything is in spec.

PS: Shifting is a bit off, I was shaking like leaf! I was very worried I was disturbing the neighborhood.

X53Jay4.8is 10-08-2019 02:03 PM

Sounds interesting. Is that a straight through exhaust with no mufflers or resonators?

Happy 10-08-2019 02:07 PM

Cats and Mufflers.

crystalworks 10-08-2019 04:47 PM

That does sound interesting. What brand mufflers? OE cats? Sounded like a large diesel truck in the first drive away shot.

Love the supercharger intake sound.

Yes OE cats and it’s a single muffler. I can’t remember the name, It’s pretty long, glass filled dual in, dual out.

If you scrub the first pass and pause it, you’ll see the atomized water/meth blow out. It has probably burned a lot of the glass in the muffler. LoL.

Also, it probably reminds you of a diesel, because of the blower. It has all the sounds a turbo diesel would have, other than the sound of the fan in the exhaust like any turbo. My fan is constantly under boost because it is belt driven.

In person you can definitely hear the blower through the exhaust. The intake has a sound of its own.

Our mic used in the video is not of the best quality. I highly recommend using ear buds headphones to achieve the proper sound.

I want one. What supercharger system did you install?

g300d 10-09-2019 11:25 PM

Neat! I may have missed it, is this a 6cyl or a V8?

Thanks! I assume its a centtifugal? How much power did you end up with?

Correct.

Should be S62 power.

g300d 10-11-2019 04:45 AM

Dayum! I want to see the faces of the iS drivers when you pull on them!

Is this a manual? Either way how is your trans handling this??

I don’t know about the iS drivers, but years ago I posted about my run in with a E46 M3. His reaction was priceless.

It is a manual. Gear box seems fine.

It’s very rare I push my E53 that hard. I only did it because I promised the board I would redline her if she came out with a clean bill of health.

g300d 10-12-2019 07:52 AM

Noice! I think about FI once in a while but I really dont trust the autos to handle them. Even without FI I feel they are just a redline run away from breaking lol.

Very cool ride!

Happy 10-12-2019 10:44 AM

Hahaha... I know what you mean. I had a automatic 2006 E46 ZHP Coupe, and it was like music to my ears when I would let her rip to 7000 rpm. But always in the back of my mind I thought, remember your box, remember your box.

Thank you for the compliment.

Sorry, none.

Welp! Come to find out, my DISA and MAF are shot.

Saved that M54 from destroying itself.

crystalworks 10-19-2019 05:47 PM

^Phew!!! Just in time. When we'd see m54's come into the shop needing a DISA we were always worried the pin would be precariously sitting somewhere waiting to fall into the intake runners.

Happy 10-19-2019 05:56 PM

GOT HER BACK GUYS!

Yeah that one was pretty close. The video actually exposed the issues. In the first pass we could hear 3 slight misses in the top of second gear. I think the MAF was the primary cause, however decided to inspect the DISA. I was pretty shocked.

Took her to the top a couple times in second gear and no missing. They were definitely due, there was a moderate power gain.

Happy 11-14-2019 08:54 PM

The blow off is pretty nasty on this build. Remember there is a MAF, so it’s not atmospheric.

Anyone agree?

crystalworks 11-14-2019 09:10 PM

Blow off or blow by?

Is tuning available to make it MAP based vs MAF based?

So Crystal I think you are correct. It would be blow by right?

I did not choose alpha-n because of smog in California. I was able to pass at least twice, which worked out well. Visual was overlooked.

In Texas we still have inspection. I wanted the X5 to able, under any circumstances.

So, if it’s blow by and the microphone caught that release of pressure, I would say the RMS kit it pretty aggressive.

Right?

Andrew, Overboost, and Bcredliner. I would like to hear your feed back as well regarding reprogramming.

crystalworks 11-15-2019 11:52 AM

Does it have a "blow off" valve? I'm more familiar with turbo than supercharger but I would think you would still want the pressure to be released to atmosphere after lift off.

I was asking if you meant blow by, oil/boost making it past the piston rings. Wasn't sure what you were referring to in post 23.

Happy 11-15-2019 12:24 PM

It does, but I think you refreshed my memory that it is a bypass vs blow off. If it were to blow off MAF would detect irregularity, so it puts it back into the system.

I rarely drive the X that hard but I was shocked myself to hear what sounded like blow off.

There is no blow by from the rings, but it’s a bit rich. That’s why I’m mulling of the idea of reprogramming, because how darn hot it get here during the summer.

I just keep hear an old saying, “leave well enough alone”. LoL..

Kinda does sound like a Cummings. It’s gotta be the torque?

Right?

Love the supercharger intake sound.

Come to find out Crystal, I was losing 3lbs of boost during this shoot, faulty valve cover gasket. Plus my adaptations were faulty as well. Bad MAF, bad DISA, and boost gauge failed, causing a severe vacuum leak.

With all the repairs, 11lbs of boost. 14 x 11 = 154. Plus 30hp from the meth. 230 + 154 + 30 = 414. Definitely S62 power.

Tell me more about this diesel sound.
