Transmission rebuild/swap?
 

I’m able to study for the bar exam in between shifts in this thing. I love my 4.6 but it’s just a complete slush box. Of course it feels especially incompetent since I also have an m340i, so in comparison it’s bad, but on it’s own it’s pretty terrible. That being said has anyone ever thrown a shift kit in their autos or anything to feel more alive and aggressive? Doesn’t look like any particular swaps are recommended

I run a Dinan stage 1 EGS tune in my E46. Quicker shifts and higher shift points at WOT but still not as fast as your dual clutch system in your M340i.

Looking on the Dinan site they have a performance auto trans software upgrade for the e53. Is that similar or the same to what you’ve done to your e46?

I'm sure the programming of the EGS of the E46 and E53 is close to the same. My E46 with the Dinan EGS flash has the ZF gearbox and I retrofitted the M3 SMG wheel with paddle shifting and wired it all in and is fully functional. It made quite a difference but I really never use the sport mode. I just drive it like the old man in me. :rofl:

But it sounds too goooood to drive like an old man! :D

I’m definitely looking into this, I’d also love the M3 steering wheel with paddle shifters

M340i should have a ZF 8hp, & that transmission is oh so awesome.. ;)
