I forgot how big the island is. Been to Victoria numerous times and traveled some up the east side of the island. I can see how living on the west side would make it prohibitive.

Why would you need to have a mechanic inspect anything?

Maybe things work different in B.C., but here you can buy anything and do what you want with it with regards to shipping, storing, modifying or burying in a deep hole.

Only if you want license plates to legally drive on an Ontario road would an inspection be necessary.

Isn't that what people buy them for?

The plan was to ship to Ontario to sell the cars to locals who wanted rust-free chassis. Therefore, safety inspection needed.

Anyway I think we are swinging way off topic here and should either end this thread or start a fresh one.

Just completed another TX to WI trip of nearly 1200 miles in my X5 without issue while towing about 4,000 pounds of trailer and cargo. The U-Haul ramp trailer weighs 1200 pounds and we had about 1800 pounds of cargo in there.

Average speed per the OBC was 70mph and average MPG was 13.5.

Current mileage approximately 125,000 miles.

I continue to believe that a well maintained X5 is capable of delivering excellent reliability. Beat up ones, not so much........ :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

I think that's true for almost any car, even a Toyota.

I personally had 2 X3s that weren't well maintained and I BEAT on them to the tune of 40 and 70 thousand KM each without so much as oil changes.

I'm talking driving 12 hours as a delivery guy in a big city BEAT on them.

The Ford Focus that I started off the driving gig with lasted 3 weeks

The X is like any other machine. If you do proper maintenance and replace worn parts before they break, the machine will last a long time. I have over 255,000 miles on my X and it is running fine. The M54 engine, from what I've heard, read and observed is practically bullet proof if properly maintained. That said, you better be willing to DIY or you will spend far more than the value of the truck in mechanics labor costs than it's worth.
