No start and alarm goes off..

Just had my battery changed on my 04 X5 4.4.....
car was fine for four days..Go to start it last night and would not start and alarm goes off...

I had this no start problem 6 months ago...From what I understand a computer board was changed which is located under the dashboard...

Same thing a few weeks ago...No start and alarm goes off....Changed battery..Fine for four days than the same nonsense..

Getting frustrated..

What scan tools do you have.sounds like your EWS system is not decoding your key and thinks somebody is using a screwdriver to start the car.

You need to read the ews module. Usualky of I get a false alarm I can put the key in either the ignition or the door and turn the key a couple times and it stops the siren. Did you do something to stop the siren?

Will show what you sent me to my mechanic....When the alarm goes off I step outside the car and use the key to lock the door and alarm goes off..

I spoke to him this morning ( got stuck late last night ).He suggested that I place key in the on position and leave it for like 20 minutes, than try to start the car..

"goes off" usuaky means starts making sound that's why I used the exact phrase above. You stopped the alarm by using the key in the door.

That's a good sign that the key isn't broken and that the EWS is functional. I would suspect the key antenna around the ignition .

Not sure what he's expecting to change with the key in the on position, that will charge the key battery but that is not used for ews.

EWS stands for "D rive A way P rotection"

I've always wondered what the letters meant. It makes more sense in German:

Electronische Wegfahrsperre

That article could be of major help in flushing out your bug.

How I long for the days when keys were just small pieces of metal, not stuffed with electronics....Will run this by my mechanic...

Keep us posted I've seen similar problems ended up being the key antenna. One other thing is to make sure the MID code is not set. Would appear on the MID I think as asking for an unlock code on the radio interrace

Just on the off chance...

Check your hood switch for the alarm (don't ask how my neighbors know)

No start and alarm goes off..

Hood switch is a known issue for random alarm. Alarm should be deactivated when door is open but it wasn't clear if key was used to unlock door or remote so whichever it was try the other.
