Overhead Console Microphone Connector confirmation
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
I'm going to be installing the BlueBus into my X5 which currently does not have any phone mic or modules for a phone/hands free system (hence the BlueBus upgrade/ install). I have confirmation on the telephone harness connection in the trunk, but as for the front of vehicle, in the Overhead console area, I am THINKING I found the connection but was hoping someone could confirm When I removed the console, I didn't see any 3 wire connector anywhere but after looking at the wire bundle that stretches from side to side of the vehicle, just where the headliner meets the windscreen, there was a wire harness bundled nice and neatly, and then a black sheath which had a black, yellow and another black wire connected to what seems to be the connection for a Mic, taped up (with electric tape) to the large bundle of wires just to the left of the console opening. So I pryed it out of the electric tape, after a few cuts on my finger, and snapped these pics. Can anyone confirm if I've found the proper connection? |
That certainly looks like it - connector X18507.

F. I'm hoping this would have been the mic but I guess it could also be for another module I don't have. If I have the black 54pin connector in trunk it makes sense I have the mic connector somewhere then. I will look around the overhead console more then.

It still might be what you are looking for - here's the wiring diagram.
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...ophone/nM51wLS Check that pins 1 & 2 on X18507 connect to pins 3 & 2 on X4038 (the 54-pin black connector). |
Damn, that's a handy dandy schematic. Thanks. Just a simple continuity test i assume you mean? I could grab a long spare wire and plug into the pins to check, sure can. Thanks for your help. As Teddy (BlueBus builder) said, it's probably rare that BMW would put two of the same connection type in the same area, to confuse things... So I'm thinking this IS the proper connector, but I should check to be safe.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that mic only works with BMW phone equipment. It won't work with non-oem Bluetooth.
