Can someone suggest a good phone mount for X3/X5 ?
I need to get one for this car. Anything good out there?
|
I use ProClip and the universal Magnetic Mount. That way it doesn't matter what phone I use.
That's a ball shaped mount so you can position it any way you like.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7392000740.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ae997fcafd.jpg Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk |
I've tried magnets before and they were terrible for me. Phone always slipped off almost immediately. So annoying.

Best mounts for any device are either ram mount or quad lock. How to mount to the car is the trick but the options are unlimited
Quad lock recently released a wireless charger head which I intend to get. I'm likely to mount onto the top of the shifter |

RAM Mounts (RAP-B-138-UN7U) Composite Flat Surface Mount with Universal X-Grip Cell/Iphone Holder https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008JH0XH6..._bnq9Db169FWXB
The complete mount looks like this. There are half a dozen different types of base you can mix and match you show only the "head". The best mounts to phone are the quad lock. Quad Lock Car Mount https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E3DCUU8..._Jpq9DbSH40Q7P Here's an example of quad lock suction mount. You can either get a full case or a stick on universal mount for your phone. A 45° twist locks a phone on or off. No wiggles and jiggles. |
You can get a ram mount to hold a quad head and get the best of both.
|
Quad seems discontinued for cars.

Nope still have. A common solution is to screw or glue (3m command release) a smooth disc somewhere you can use the suction cup |

You've never tried one if these have you.?[emoji12] First off, there is a small ridge around the magnetic mount so the phone cannot slip. Second, the damn things are almost too strong. If you stick one of the discs in the magnet without having it stuck to a phone, good luck getting it off [emoji23] I use this mount in my rock Crawler also, phone doesn't budge.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6b5d548974.jpg Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk |
The magnet style with the ball and ring are pretty good, and the style with the rectangular plate you stick to phone also ok if you actually stick it to the outside of your phone case but suck if you try to just put inside your phone case.

I ended up buying this for $22

since I'm upgrading to the world of bluetooth, I figured I'd have my phone in a location, other than my pocket, that will be decent to have to hear me scream OK GOOGLE now... and so I bought a few magnetic mounts and I believe my winner and location are stellar... I bought the WIZgear (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and man is it strong. I do not think it will fall and I'm placing it on the overhead console, between the ultrasonic slits. I played with the bar and magnetic discs/sheets it comes with and I used the largest one between my Pixel 3 and its rubber case and it seemed to hold extremely well as I wAS GIGGLING IT hard TO SIMULATE A POTHOLE OR nasty bump. It held amazingly!!!!
I'm clamping it in place for a minimum 12 hrs, based on reviews I've read of many different kinds of magnetic holders that are stuck to car Dash's/plastic panels. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0e666ba852.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...34254542ce.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7fc460d4cc.jpg |
Follow up with phone mounted when done. It looks like a great idea.
I'm planning to put a quad lock mount on the top of my gear shift Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
So far, I'm super impressed. With the extremely thin metal sheet just sitting between my phone and rubber Case, it hold extremely!!!!! Well. It also is about the width of my pixel 3 so it covers a lot of the metal plate for max holding power. It also allows me to place the phone very close to the overhead console so it's not hanging far but very easy access to grab and go. I do NOT need to use my phone screen for.navigation or reading texts, so if you need to look at the screen then this is 100% NOT for you. But for us who just need it for voice prompts and to maybe accept incoming calls it's perfectly placed.
What I didn't check is the operation of the ultrasonic sensors when vehicle is locked. I hope it doesn't affect this operation. And in case some are wondering why I didn't place it vertical in between the slits, it's because of the curvature... It wouldn't stick well enough. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk |
It's great thinking outside the box. You don't need to see the screen so you made the call to solve it your way. Kudos!
