factory tools for 2001 x5?
besides the plastic prop rod, the z shaped lug wrench and the 2 wheel chocks, does anyone know what other tools belong with a 2001 X5? There's some unused spots in the blow molded plastic around the spare. I'm pretty sure there's supposed to be a tow eyelet, but not sure if there's a tool to take vehicle out of park for towing like I've read about online in the later years, 2012 to be exact. thx

If you have a sunroof, you should also have the long Z-shaped Allen wrench to manually close roof.
While it wasn't included I am putting together the tools necessary to repair a broken window mechanism (broken due to clips not reguator) and will keep it in the car. |
Our '01 had a roll of tools. Screwdriver, couple of wrenches, the roof wrench and I think a plug wrench. Then there was the eyelet and lug wrench with the spare.
I might add I picked up a Merc "G" Wagon tool set to carry in the car. Much more comprehensive. |
Just an FYI...unlike the new gen BMWs with their electronic park function & electronic gear shift lever (joy stick)...you don't need a tool to take your X5 out of gear...you can still use your gear shift lever to put the car into neutral even if there's no power. Your gear shift lever is mechanically linked to the transmission with a bowden cable (you can see it in the image below). :thumbup:
The available "tools" are listed in the parts database...and some of the stuff the US market didn't get (like #7... the warning triangle) because it doesn't meet the US DOT standards. (I used my VIN to look this diagram up...so it may or may not apply to everyone since it is a 2006 model year..you can input the last 7 digits of your VIN to look up the diagram to verify. The tow hook had a "from" date in the supplemental column...so e53s built before that may require a different part nbr) |

They have 2 sizes I think. The blue one is a little larger like in my E46. I had originally ordered that one for my E46 but didn't fit the brackets so it went in the E53.

thx for the info everyone.. very helpful. Does anyone have a pic of the spare storage area they could upload? Now, I'm mainly trying to figure out the stuff missing from the spare tire wheel well from a 2001 that would go in the vacant spots in the blow-molded plastic surrounding the tire. I have the lug wrench and eyelet for towing as well as 2 wheel chocks and the plastic prop rod for the tailgate. There also looks to be something missing that the white connector would go to in front of the tire to the right.
