Window & Window Regulator Alignment
 

I'm currently dealing with a window regulator issue that has plagued my X5 for the past year. I bought a cheap front left window regulator, and when I would roll the window down all the way it would come out of the clips and fall to the bottom.

I recently bought a URO window regulator, along with OEM clips, and I spent a lot of time adjusting it and trying to get it to run smoothly. It worked well for a few days, but when I shut the door with the window down, it came off the clips again.

I've readjusted the window regulator multiple times with no luck. Is there a definitive guide on how to adjust the regulator so it can raise and lower the window without coming off the mounting points? Any help would be great.

I have repaired two window regulators /replaced clips on my X5 and am about to go in again because my son tried to open windows in freezing weather (a definite no)

I am not quite sure how the window falls out of the holder unless the clips or the regulator break? And is there really much adjustments to do? when replacing window regulator I thought it was a couple of bolts (each may have a little adjustment slack) and that's it..Keeping silicone on the tracks seems important.

Yeah, I think you're doing something wrong on assembly. My window regulator (front left) cost $21 and works like a champ. This is my first E53 replacement, so maybe it will be different, but I probably bought 8 regulators for my E46 over the years and found virtually no difference in life from cheap vs. expensive brands.

It might be better if I took a photo of it, but basically the black plastic clips sit inside a hole in the window. In the clip you put in a nut and you screw the nut to the regulator. It all has some “play.” When the window rolls down and gets to the bottom of the travel it’s enough to pull the bolt out of the black plastic clip, where the window then pops off the regulator and falls down.

I agree with the other comments that there is no adjustment. Most likely something is missing.

Are you using this part: 51-33-8-242-760 ? Your words above suggest you're using a "nut." If "nut" means this part, that's good. If nut means a standard hex nut that fits, well ...

After the window clip goes through the hole in the window, that goes in to keep the arms of the clip pressed out, firmly holding the glass. Then the screw goes into it, holding it in place.

The clips can easily snap, the screw (if not loctited) can back out of that bushing, but other than those failures it's pretty simple if all correct parts are used.

It’s possible that this part isn’t pushed in all the way? I have the black plastic clips and then this particular part inside the clip, and then a bolt that attaches to the window regulator. The interface between the black clip and the part (51-33-8-242-760) starts to pull apart as the window gets to the bottom.

The way I have the window regulator set up is

Window -> Black Plastic Clip -> Bushing (nut) -> Regulator Clip -> 8mm Screw clamping the bushing to the regulator clip.

Swap the black plastic clip for the window and I think you will be alright.

Do you mean replace the black plastic clip? Or is there something in the order the OP listed?

The window was broken when I bought the car, but after watching a few videos online I think I’ve gotten the order wrong. The black plastic clip goes through the middle of the window, but the bushing/nut thing (51-33-8-242-760) needs to be the last part. It should go Bushing Nut -> Part of Black Clip -> Window -> Other Side of Black Clip -> Regulator -> Screw.
