Rear door wont open help
Hi guys
My passenger rear door wont open, from inside or out. The lock still goes up and down when I use the remote control. I taken the door card off (with the door shut) but I cant seem to open the door by pull the mechanism the door carrier cable is attached to. Ive previously changed the door carrier on the front door but cant figure out what's stopping the rear one opening Has anyone had experience with this problem? |
Have you tried unlocking with the key in the driver door handle? Sounds like the door is staying double locked. I have had this problem on the front passenger door of mine and I had to look up the wiring diagram and hotwire the double lock open. I really wish BMW would have given the option to NOT have double lock!

When you press the lock button in the center console it "single locks" where you can pull the inner door handle when the lock state indicator button is down and the door will open. When you lock the doors with the keyless and or lock tumbler on the drivers door the car "Double Locks" so even if someone breaks a window they can not open the door. You can technically lock someone inside your BMW. Even if they have an ignition key with an ews chip they can not turn the car on and use the center lock button to be able to unlock the car. They would have to turn ignition on and roll down the window, then take the key and insert it in the lock and rotate to unlock to enable the inner door handles. |
The double locking can get out of sync and people have been able to get a door open by using the emergency egress procedure.
If you are in the car and somebody locks you in from outside you can not exit the car as the inside door handles are disabled. However if you press and hold the central lock button it will disable the double lock and you can double pull the inside handle to exit. If the child lock is enabled you will not be able to use the inside handle to exit but you may be able to use the trick to disable the double lock and then use the key to primary unlock and then open from outside. If the double lock override doesn’t work than very likely the double lock motor is shot. Look for my awr-fix on actuator it shows how to replace the motor for $6 each vs $230@ for a new actuator. |
Hi
I tried to unlock with the key in the drivers door handle, also pressing and holding the interior lock unlock button, but it still wont open. Over about 6 months the door sometimes wouldn't open and it took a harder pull from the handle to get it to open, I thought this is probably the door carrier going. But it neither opens from the inside or out? I've still got the door card off, im trying to open the door. Do I need to take out the lock section, if the problem is the double lock being faulty? |
If you have the door panel off you can manually unlock with the lever on the door actuator. Find my actuator repair thread, I show exactly how the double lock works. You can keep
If it's double locked you would lock the car from outside or with the key fob to sync double lock, than while the doors are double locked and sitting inside, press and hold the central lock button and pull the inside door handle to unlock the actuator. Pull again to open the door. (warning will trip the alarm). Reset alarm with key in the ignition turn to accessory. When locking from inside either use the key through the driver window rolled down or the key fob but lock it twice to defeat the motion sensor. |
Thanks got it open and sorted now

I done what you said and it unlocked from the inside, it worked again no problem, I reinstalled the door card and hey presto.
