A word of caution when you’re removing those metal plates make sure the red cap is still covering the positive terminal. A buddy of mine tried to earth weld the metal plate to his car

Thanks for this thread. Battery confirmed DOA at Autozone today.

Looks like H8 retails at $199 at Pepboys around Dallas, TX. Web only promotion is 25% off, down to $149. Sounds great but anyone let me know if I’m missing a better deal.

I might price out Walmart and the Home Depot brand (Exide) online...The Home Depot H8 Exide is $119...Be sure to check date codes..you don't want one made a year ago..

Also for anyone who bought a battery at PepBoys already, recently enough ...

They typically (always?) also have a rebate going on. It does combine with the 25% (or 35% on black friday) price discount. As usual it is currently $40. PepBoys also gives you the tax back, so if you're in a place like Taxifornia, you'll get $44 back.

And I checked, and they do have the $40 on Champion AGMs through 2/22.

You can do the rebate online, just entering the transaction number on the receipt. Very easy and reliable. No, I don't work for PepBoys.

I've currently got 3x of those Champion AGMs in my Porsches and BMW, all of them with the discount + the rebate.

I think on one of those 3 I bought, they did not have the 25% or 35% off in-store. I should have ordered it online for store pickup to get the discount, but they gave it to me anyway. Select the option to pay in store, and it is basically a reservation rather than an order. So you can for example bring in your core for a swap and it will be easier.

Thanks for the tip on the rebate  I had bought 2 Bosch batteries from them in the past whenever there's a 25% off, but never knew there's a rebate for them as it's very hidden. I'll need to get one for the X probably by the end of the year and will definitely look for the rebate then.

Got this at Pepboys store last night $162 taxes included. Just submitted $50 rebate. Total should end up at $112. While in the store found out Pepboys is closing stores at least in Texas, which explains aggressive discount. I guess I should not expect warranty on it, but for that cheap I take my chance.

Update: Bosch AGM started acting up and wouldn't hold a charge. It's only 2 months old, so I returned it under the 48mo replacement warranty. Pep Boys tested it and found a shorted cell. They didn't have the Bosch in stock, so offered me the Champion H9 AGM instead. Beast of a battery. Warranty process was hassle-free.

I should add, this one went into my E70 X5, not the E53. As mentioned earlier, the H9 is too long for the E53. Tried to code it to change from 90Ah to 105Ah, and the Foxwell app doesn't seem to work. I registered the new replacement, but coding it to change specs for IBS is buggy.

I had similar problems and had to use Carly to code to 105Ah when I changed batteries in the e70. :dunno:

E53 doesn't use IBS I think that started around 07-08. I have used foxwell to code a new battery in 08 328xi
