I've never lost any of these plug-in nuts while servicing the car myself over the last five years (this panel has to be removed to get at the engine air filter) but the dealer lost three in one visit. Sheesh....

The "trick" is to remove the seal on the cover edge first so you can lift it straight up and not trying to slide sideways out from under the seal.

That's the only way I've ever done it.

Removing the cabin filter housing makes the engine bay very roomy. ;)

Yes, but still a pain in the ass compared to for example E39 with the same engine.

AWESOME, thank you.

And good idea to who suggested putting them in with a dap of silicone.

They were missing when I purchased the car unfortunately.

It’s probably a blessing in disguise because if the bolt cam whatever that goes into them is still working it’s only working because the nut it went into was missing

This is what “screws” into them. But mine are still attached to my windshield coal vent piece as they should be, it’s the snap-in nut behind it that was missing, so it had nothing to grab.

I've got one or 2 in this failure mode.

Thanks all for their help locating the part #.

Want to have a good laugh Andrew? Go lookup the running board knurls sometime. I was missing 10-15 of them on the parts truck I bought for the aero kit. The aluminum running boards sit under the aero kit side skirts so I figured I'd put new knurls in there before the install. LOL... NOPE! I used push pins from the help me section at oreilly's. :D

FCP Euro has them for $2.19 each. Type in “51711947419 plug-in nut” on google or FCP’s website
