Can I delete fuel heating system ?

I am cleaning up my engine bay with new hoses/pipes etc on the hunt for issues on my 3.0d.
I have no need for my fuel to be heated so I want to delete it all. Anyone done this ?.

Are you talking about pre-facelift M57 or facelift M57N?

Are you talking about the Webasto Thermotop-Z heater? This thing?

Or is your 3.0d the pre-facelift with the in-line fuel cooler (small radiator in the lower-left of this image)...?

Clavurion 02-06-2020 05:22 PM

So which one you mean? Webasto heater or fuel cooler?

Big black thing is the heater

Sure you can remove Webasto if you feel like you don't need it. Just connect the coolant from engine directly to water valves (instead of going to Webasto). You also have to bypass the auxiliary coolant pump which get's its supply from Webasto. If you want to keep the pump you have to make wiring from IHKA (AC control panel) and code it as non Webasto model which has aux water pump supply directly from IHKA.

You'll also want to disable/remove the fuel dosing pump under the car too...

There is no actual need for that. Dosing pump has supply from Webasto. So there won't be pump activation if Webasto is removed.

Sure - but I was thinking more along the lines of removing the fuel supply to it - just in case. ;)

Each to their own.

My Thermotop Z runs at start up for about 9 months of the year (sub 6Deg.C ambient) and dramatically reduces warm-up time. I also have a remote and occasionally start the Thermotop Z remotely while I'm getting ready for work, so car is slightly warmer when I get in to start it, 15 minutes later... ;)
