Facelift parts interchangeability with pre-facelift

Hello all,

I have a 2003 X5 for almost four years now, and I really like this car. We don't drive it much since it's a gas hog, but it tows our trailer really well. I have for years wanted to upgrade it with some things like heated seats and the rear sunshades, but every time I find parts they are outrageously expensive.

This week I found a 2006 X5 locally which is broken, for cheap. It has the same interior color as mine, and has heated front and rear seats as well as the sunshades, and some other nice upgrades. I googled this and searched, but haven't found much info about how well those parts will fit onto my 2003.

1. Heated front seats
2. Heated rear seats
3. Rear door cards with the roll-up sunshades
4. Steering wheel (S225 sports steering wheel with S249)

If there is a FAQ somewhere and I missed it, please just point me in the right direction. Thanks for any help you can provide!

1-4 will all fit. The LCI changes were mostly in the transfer case and front end cosmetics.

Thanks for the quick reply! That sounds great. So if I have all of the electronics there won't even be any wiring changes? That's awesome...

I would check under the seats to see if you have wiring for the seat heaters. To my knowledge most of the later model X5s have the wiring in place.

When i pulled up the seat pad to run tow wiring a couple years ago, I saw some wiring and a couple of unconnected connectors. I am guessing that is it? Would it have been on a 2003?

The will have some large gauge wiring. Like 12ga red and brown wires in the connectors.

Pulled up the seat again -- there were three connectors hanging down there. One five-pin with a 12 or 14 awg white and brown. And two identical smaller connectors with three wires each, and each one looked like it had one larger brown wire. No red wires though. Sound like what I'm looking for? I can't imagine what else they would be for. I do have the motorized back seat, so it can't be for that.

Front seats or rear seats? Take some pictures so we can help. I am not sure of the colors.

Rear seats. Have a google account? I can't get the image hosting on this site to work. It wants me to reduce it to a tiny tiny size, smaller than my phone will reduce it to.
