Black trim restoration and detailing
 

I've searched this topic and all discussion goes back 10-15 years ago so I created a new thread.

I watched Chrisfix's video on how to wash an engine bay and I was pretty impressed with the results.

In that video from 2 years ago, he used Meguiar’s Ultimate Plastic Restorer to make the plastic shine.

He made another great video in 2020 on how to detail faded paint, including plastic

In this video he used ceramic coating instead of Meguiar’s Plastic Restorer.
It's called ARMOR SHIELD IX DIY KIT
This kit costs $100 while Meguiar costs $15

I was wondering if any of you used ceramic coatings to restore faded plastic?

There are lots of ceramic coatings for $30-40 with great reviews. I'm not sure this armour shield $100 price tag is justified.

I was thinking of using Meguiar but I don't know how long it will hold.
So if the ceramic coating will last longer and provide better results, I'd rather go with that option.

Has anyone used this or any other ceramic sealant to restore faded plastic?
Does armour shield have some special formula??
Their website says The highest consumer-grade ceramic coating on the market. But I don't know if it's just a marketing bs? After all, every product claims to be the best...
Now Chrisfix is not a bs guy and has 6 million subscribers, the highest number there is for auto repair channel. So maybe that stuff is that good?

Please share your experience with plastic restoration and in particular using ceramic coatings for that purpose. Either under the hood or on the exterior.

For exterior black plastic parts I've used Gtechniq C4. The result is great and in my use the result lasts nearly two years.

I used forever black last summer and will need to redo some lower areas this year. however I should mention I did 40+ trips skiing and went thru lots of slop/slush/etc, so that could have had a negative affect on durability

Ordered forever black for amazon! Too bad it's gonna take a month to ship lol...
I decided on it because it has a permanent dye in it compared to a ceramic coating.

I did Forever Black on mine last year as well. It has been holding up pretty well. Much better than the stuff that is basically just oil. The only thing I wasn't super happy with is the Forever Black left brush marks. They're not particularly visible, but they're there. They trigger my OCD, but it is better than putting oil on every two months. Definitely recommend the stuff.

I used meguiars hybrid ceramic wax to coat the plastic trim pieces on a Porsche Cayenne and the plastic bottom of a rear bumper.

It does seem to bring back the black color well.
