3.0 Muffler Delete - anyone done it?

Guys: been searching the board to get info on muffler delete for my 3.0. I'd like a little more aggressive sound. I had the exhaust disconnected from behind the center resonator when I changes my diff bushings. I fired it up to see what it sounded like and it sounded pretty good, but it was also pretty "droney". Anyone done this mod? I'm wondering if the droning was a function of not having pipe all the way to the rear or if it is likely to drone even with pipe all the way back. Maybe a glass pack in place of the muffler would cut the drone?

Almost all of the posts on here are for V8's so, they're not much help.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Once on my 1971 Chevy Impala. I was doing about 95 at the time thanks for the memory.

I just remember starting the drive with a relatively quiet car, punching it to near triple digits. It was nice to see the wide speedo on the right side once in a while and when I slowed back down to go though a town holy crap the echo from buildings was shall we say "quite evident".

Hope the thing scooted off into a ditch since I had no idea it "self deleted" until miles later.

As for more agressieve sound: I think I would look into a tap like a bypass but always there. If you weld on a bung for an O2 sensor before the back muffler so there is a solid fixture that will not start to immediately self destruct I think that could achieve your desire.

Actually to test my theory, hook up your mufflers but space the connection open with some washers like 1/16" all the way around.

If you get the desired effect, put some form of seal like some lead plate on just the top to force the leaking exhaust only down.

I want to replace my rear sub mounts and with exhaust in the way I may try this myself.

That's worth a try. It looks like I'm going to be replacing my rear subframe bushings too as I think I've narrowed down the rear rattle to that. 62k miles on the current set. I guess it's time. Was hoping for more. Thankfully when I did my rear end suspension refresh I bought everything from FCP, so redoing everything back there will essentially be free. Except for my time of course. Which I currently have no lack of.

I would doubt the drone will go away with the added pipes. Even my quiet Remus drone at cold startup!
