Dont get an aftermarket head unit, they look ghetto and ruin the original layout. Get the Bluebus unit, it'll be far superior.

To the OP, what are you looking to gain?
JUST Bluetooth and handsfree? Then get the BlueBus. Search for it on this forum if you want the NAV screen, then do an aftermarket but be careful of which you choose to work with your DSP and make sure it looks proper in the dash as some of them look like shit. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk |

However, if the OP wants to take his X5 to the next level with navigation and a multitude of additional features, then the open source Android operating system Android Avant-4 would be the way to go with costs being very similar. Now about the look of my my ghetto X5... https://xoutpost.com/attachments/x5-...416_185654.jpg |

https://xoutpost.com/attachments/x5-...d-dsc07726.jpg And I'd have to agree with the description! (I think I just threw up a little bit...) The Avant-4 on the other-hand, is about as factory-looking as it gets!! |

Avin Avant 4 it will be.
Now I just have to find someone who can send it to Sweden to avoid taxes and custom fees. Anyone from California that can help??

Wayne and Nilsson, how much is $350 USD in your countries? I have a brand new Avant-4 with Android 9 and the PX6 processor here in the box. I bought it last year as a spare but really have no need for it. I am guessing the shipping would be expensive but check and see how much it would be.

The Avin has a built in mic on the face but I used an external mic mounted on my overhead console.
|
OK! I can get that in Sweden if I want!!

Sounds like you are sorted with Nilssonulf (Ulf?) though - good stuff! FWIW, US$350 = NZ$572 (at today's rates) so add US postage (:yikes:) and 15% tax + fees at NZ 's border... I guess it would have been cheaper than direct from Avin. Bloody kind offer... ;) Sadly, while COVID-19 hasn't pulled the entire rug from under my livelihood (like in your case... :( ) it has unravelled some threads, with things like increased workload, reduced pay, re-structuring etc. so I'm not in a position to doing anything but the bare minimum required to keep vehicles on the road... |

I know what you mean about slashed budget. The wife and I are counting pennies at this point and selling things I really don't need. I sold my Porsche PIWIS 2 last week for $1,200 last week. The R6 is also up on the chopping block along with our baby grand piano. :banghead: |

Yes, I will buy it from OB. But I can wait. No stress OB, just so you know. It is a bargain for me since this covid-19 makes SEK Worth nothing. Yoday you have to pay 10 SEK for 1 US$. Then add 25% VAT and customs fee! :( I hope you guys manage through this crazy time. Me myself are IT-Consultant so covid-19 dont bother me that much. Network and computers have to run anyway. Take care, and when u ready OB, we make the arrangements for shipping. |

Yes Sir, it is a LHD. Is there any differences between LHD and RHD when it comes to Avin ?? |

One last thing to consider, since this one was a US destination the radio band may not be correct by default, you will need to adjust the settings to your frequencies for Finland. Easily done I suppose, there is not a separate device for worldwide delivery?

Nice wife!! Mine is from Thailand! |

For example, on most (Japanese etc.) cars in NZ, the left stalk is headlight, wipers etc. and the indicators etc. are on the right stalk. On Euro cars, the stalks are reversed, i.e. the indicators are on the left... I've gotten pretty good at doing the mind-swap as I jump from my BMW (LHD stalks), my daughter's VW Golf (LHD stalks) and the wife's Mazda (RHD stalks). On rare occasions, I'll pull up to an intersection in my wife's Mazda and turn on the wipers.... Manual transmission Euro cars can be a handful to drive around town, given the same hand is required for both gear shifting and operating the indicator stalk…. Some Euro cars here even still have the centre console layout from the LHD version, putting the park brake handle over next to the passenger (left) seat!!! |
I think the Avant intelligently has the built in microphone located centrally, the 2 android units I have had in my E53 and E83 had/have the microphone on the left hand side of the front panel, adding several inches from the driver in our right hand drive vehicles.
|
My wife are from Thailand. She have a RHD Honda we use when we go there. They drive on the left side. Imagine me coming from a right side traffic land and used to drive a LHD car . I will spare u the rest! Hahahahaha….

You get used to it pretty quickly, especially on larger freeways. Gotta be careful on left turns and remember go wide and over to the right, rather than hugging the curb!! ;) |
A very big and from the heart THANK YOU Overboost!
This is incredible. I came into this Community as a new BMW E53 owner and asked for some help with Bluetooth and handsfree and ended up buying a Avin Avant-4 from "Overboost". I am so happy there still are honest and friendly people out there. I have now ordered mounting brackets and iBus+I-BUS App - OBC+DSP License. Can not wait to get it in my dash.
Thank U again OB. If you need anything, dont hesitaste to ask me. Reasonable things thou…..:rofl::rofl: |

Once your Avant-4 arrives, we can help with all the programming all the nice little features that unit provides. I would spend some time looking through the Avant-4 posts from around the net and see how flexible the system can be. One of our members even made a video of a complete install on a nav equipped car (not applicable in your instance) but watching the install gives great information. https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...ideo-link.html |

What I am thinking about now, is to buy a mic and wire it while waiting for the "big bang" to arrive. Or is the mic in the head unit ok for a decent phone call?? |
Quote:
It is a simple 3.5mm jack on the harness for the external mic so you could try the internal mic and if you want to change it later, you could do it when you add the rear cam. https://xoutpost.com/attachments/x5-...522_133847.jpg |
