Front drive shaft flex disc (guibo)

Hi all,

Has anyone ever replaced the FRONT drive shaft flex disc? Watched few videos and read a bit about it and it seems that without removing diff or trans case or cutting it in half it is not possible...

Any advice/ideas appreciated!

What model are we talking about? Usually on these the front propeller slides a bit in the transfer case and flex disc can be easily changed.

I’ve got 3.0l diesel e53

So you are saying I should be able to slide it into trans case enough to take the flex disc out?

I don't think you can push the front prop into the TC due to the way the dust cap loads axially.

I've heard of people not using the centering pin on some variation putting in but does that mean you have to sawzall to remove?

I would not have an issue with destructive removal of I could find a YouTube video to change It showing that method.

Destructive guibo not prop

I recently installed front prop on e90 and that allowed overshot into the TC to make it easy and I think the same to the rear, or just dropping the CSB gave me plenty of room.

Back to e53 front prop. I also would not be against possibly deforming the dust cap to gain 1/4-1/3" to release the guibo.

IIRC it was just this easy.

I was going to say. Front driveshaft service is cake. Rear is the difficult one. When I did my driveline service it took a couple hours for the front. Took a couple weeks for the rear. Ugh, there's a thread as to why. A seized centering sleeve was involved.

Seized and anything no fun when fixing a car.

Have you had any problems and had to replace any of the parts listed in this instruction?

Yeah...I replaced the whole assembly including a new guibo.

The OE guibo rubber was all micro-cracked. But my main concern were the splines on the driveshaft as they were wearing out.

I'm going to post a new thread with pics...
