Should weights be added to the seats etc., when torquing these parts. With the e39 you have to add weights to the front and back seat and trunk.

I saw no mention of weight just on the ground or lift the hub until it's holding the weight. That's the method I use. Lift from the bottom of ball joint until just lifting off the jack stand.

Ok. I find it strange that they’ll want you to add weight to the e39 but not the x5. They are the same underpinnings.

Butt the X5 likely already weighs more than the e39 with the added weights.

Actually BMW TIS states on every model that those bushed parts are tightened in vehicle normal position which also includes DIN load (full tank, 68 kg on both front seats and 14 kg in the trunk). In real life the difference this extra load makes on position of those bushes is minimal and can be neglected.

14kg trunk that's hilarious. Also with typical weight of 1200 each front and 1600 each rear those small weights are negligible.
