Temperamental seat control switchpack
 

Afternoon all,


Annoyingly my front passenger seat position controller is on the fritz.

Works in all modes other than forward and back.... some times. So all the switches do as they should, other than some times the forward and rear does not operate. The switch physically moves but the seat doesn’t. Read up that it’s a common fault with that switch pack on other BMWs and it’s the relays inside that are worn.

Anyone k ow if the module can be pulled apart and repaired? As I can’t get a new one it seems and I don’t want to get a second hand one that will be worn as well.

It’s a livable fault, just frustrating when you want to get the child seat in and the seat won’t move forwards without fiddling around for 5 minutes!

But equally I know it’ll choose to fully break when the seats all the way forward, up and lent back lol. So if I can sort it now that would be great!

And I know they are cheap on eBay second hand lol....... but I’m even cheaper and love repairing the stuff I’ve got!

They are repairable so if you have the soldering skills very doable. I was going to do mine but didn't have the time (mine actually had processor issues) and ended up buying a new one so I still might have some of the relays. Your logic is sound for not getting a used one. You are way better off repairing yours or buying new OE.

I would also recommend trying to solve the issue by repairing the unit yourself as it seems not to need any super special tools. Check page 58, you'll see which position of the seat not working responds to which part of the PM SM unit E53 electronics seats
