BMW AUX Input
Hello,
I got a question for the experts out there. I have the NAV system, and I'm thinking of doing the Satellite and or a headliner mount DVD monitor. I was told I don’t have a spare AUX port in the back of my stereo, is that true? If so, I wanting to install an extra AUX in my 2004 X5 4.4i, and would like to know where I can find the AUX input device. I asked my dealer and they told me there isn't such a beast (or at least what they’ve heard of). I'm not very much into the FM modulator concept, I would like to get optimum sound of my audio. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks much! |
How about if you install the OEM AUX input and a Y-splitter to split the audio signals from the DVD and Sat Radio?
And whoever told you that you don't have an AUX input in the back of your NAV screen is ought to be shot. |
There is an AUX input kit that is a dealer installed option (or a DIY). The BMW installation instructions can be found at http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/BM...stallation.pdf and they contain the part numbers for the kit as well.
Once you have installed the kit you will have an additional item that displays on your screen when you cycle through the MODE button on your nav screen. Currently you should have the Radio, CDC (if you have a CD changer installed) and Tape (for the cassette behind the screen). After the AUX kit is installed it will also give you AUX as an item. While you are in AUX mode you can press the 1 through 6 preset buttons on the nav screen to control the amount of gain, with 1 being the lowest and 6 being the highest. It's not a difficult DIY as long as you are comfortable with taking some things apart in the vehicle. Jeff |
Cool, thanks for the info. I did see that and read thru it. But it didn't mention anything about how much the unit was or anything. I guess since I have the part number now, I can call around and get butt raped by my dealers :D
Thanks again! |

I just called my dealer and told him what I wanted to achieve. He told me everything would be about 35-40 bucks. He refuses to give me the part numbers so I can research and be certain I have the correct stuff. So I played the game with him and gave him the part number on the pdf from http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/B...nstallation.pdf
He told me that wasn't the one he had in the computer. Does anyone know the exact part number for a 2004 X5 w/NAV? Also, I thinking maybe I could just replace my CD changer with maybe and DVD, or maybe even a Phatnoise box. The changer should have an AUX in the back, yes? :dunno: |
I say ditch that dealer and go to another one in your area. You can always call up Pacific BMW or Crevier BMW and they'll give you the correct part number. Why fuss with these incompetent dealers?
Oh, no AUX in the CD changer. |
Kool- I will do just that. It's just that I live in Florida and Pacific BMW, well I guess their on the pacific cost  I'm calling them anyway.
Thanks |
I used to purchase everything from Pacific BMW. Shipping to East Coast is not that bad.

Well I just ordered the parts from Pac. BMW. He had the part which was $31.66 + $15.00 minimum shipping cost. I had him throw in some BMW valve steams just to justify the $15.00 shipping. It would have been cheaper and probably more convenient to go with the local dealer, but on the other hand I rather not give them my money since they have such nasty reputation fir stuff like this.
Thanks for the heads-up! |
