Transfer Case - What else to replace?
 

Hey guys, I'm going to replace the chain in a 2001 E53 4.4 w/ the NV125 transfer case.

From the 1st time I heard the rat-tat-tat-tat, I have not let it occur more than 4 or 5 times with light acceleration and let off immediately, so I am thinking I might be OK just changing the chain. I also found that this only occurs below 30 mph. Over 30 mph you can floor it if you like to drive that way.

In case I destroyed other parts, are the other typical parts to replace the $390 output gear in the transfer case and the front drive shaft, or just the output gear?

you can get a brand new transfer case from northside imports for like 1300 i just did mine, unless your are doing it yourself buy the kit but i didnt feel comfortable doing it my self
