Use realoem.com and your vin to determine the exact part. Was your car made before 8/01?

Ignition Coils 3.0L
I found a pic of a similar coil at realoem but it won't show me a part number because it doesn't match my car
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=12_1104 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002ODNPNA..._YaBqFbF9VACFN They have five in stock. |
Was the valve cover changed to one from a newer car at some point? The newer coils push on and are not secured with the same 2 bolts as the earlier ones. The wiring harness would have to be switched out as well. I noticed this when I was checking 3.0 engines at the local yard.

Good info.
FYI, my 06/2001 built 2001 3.0i still has its original BREMI coils in there as I approach 200k miles. My understanding was that there were two "styles" they used in these cars: BREMI = roughly circular with the two ears; BOSCH = square top. For replacements, various manufacturers will make these two different "styles." So if you find it confusing (like I did) when you see an item listed as a BREMI coil, with someone else's brand on it, this is why. Realoem info for my car, with a drawing of the BOSCH-style coil: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=12_1051 I think (not sure) these are what I will need when needing replacement: https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/...19-MFG618.aspx STI now owns BREMI, so STI is OK. My car, rear 3 coils: On #5 you can see the date stamp of 19.05.01, which I believe is May 19, 2001, which makes sense for my June 2001 build. Attachment 78683 Attachment 78684 |
The wiring harness And valve cover to coil mounting points will need investigating before anyone considers switching to newer style coils. My quick look at one determined that it wasn’t so simple.
