stiff steering?

Hey,

My father asked me today if it was normal for his X5 to have such a stiff steering wheel.

Compared to his e30, my e36 and a comple of other BMWs in the family the X is relly stiff. He's got a 4.4 with stock 18s. Anyone have any input on this?

thanks,

mike

i think it's normal since my X's steering is stiffer than fiancee's 2001 e46. I'm sure the more technically knowledgeable members will be able to answer why that is the case. My only guess is that it's because the X is much heavier than the 3 series. :dunno:

What tyre pressures is he running?

I'm with X5GuyinLA, 5000lbs is not the easiest thing to deviate from its path. Even with my snows (vs staggered Diamaris) it takes positive effort to steer. Spinning the steering wheel with one finger is not an option. This is rack'n'pinion, not power steering.
