BMW X5 Mirror shaking
Hi folks,
I have an issue with both side mirrors (not glass mirror). On the bumpy road, both mirrors shake too much. You can feel even with the hand they are very loosely. There is any fix for this issue? Thanks in advance. |

I was able to re-use the painted plastic covers from my old mirrors. https://www.1aauto.com/products/i/1A...r+Confirmation 2000-06 BMW X5 Driver & Passenger Side 2 Piece Mirror Set DIY Solutions PART 1AMRP01299 This was the best aftermarket mirror with the most options, closest to OEM. Updated gearing design so won't get the same problem like ours. The gear sets in the BMW E53 mirrors are actually shared with a number of other manufacturer's like chrysler, landrover , etc and all wear out with the same problems. |
Sometimes you simply need to tighten the three screws under the lower circular cover... And once my drivers mirror was very loose after manually folding it. A power-fold cycle locked it back in place.

That's how it was for me. The procedure is discussed on here somewhere. But for me it involved removing a cover on the bottom of the mirror assembly. Not knowing exactly where the snaps were, I snapped one off (leading to an extra side repair for that), so hopefully you can avoid that. After that was done, it was a simple matter of tightening the Torx screws that were now easily accessible. I have not revisited that issue in 5 years now. Completely solved. |

Easy to replace but time consuming. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk |

That’s what I expected. Do you know where I can find instructions for it? Or any specific tips on what to look out for? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Hi. I don`t have folding mirror option. They are simple mirror. So tight the bolts under the mirror can fix this issue?

EDIT - Meant to quote Post #8 but strangely it wouldn't let me... dunno.
Optimistically..(but Clockwork is probably right), I had my passenger side mirror start hanging up on me a handful of years ago and I thought I was screwed. When I finally broke down and inspected the mirror I found that even the slightest little bit of pressure on the mirror made it work perfectly - so I washed the mirror and surrounding area with HOT soapy water and sprayed a little bit of deep creep around the two moving pieces of the mirror body and I haven't had a single problem since and that was literally years ago, only thing I can figure was something gummy had gotten in there and "stuck" it up :dunno: But I'd try that before I took my mirror apart for sure  |
Check the Senor the grease gets on it then doesent know where to dip ecta there wire up on DIY fixed worked for mine and when put into reverse works now . take time when removing the mirror it self . then i clean the contacts ecta re grease put back together and mine dips again.

Rockauto has single mirrors for $189 each or $377 for both.

I find the “dip” function to be “fragile”... mine works but it never seems to be the same twice. I’m a huge fan of Andrews fix (I think it was), I just use memory 3 and set the mirrors exactly where I want them and get the very same thing every time I press it [emoji106]
