Had same issue of random stalling in my 2004 X3 2.5i w 90K.
It was scary at times.

In summer of 2019, I cleaned the ICV (while there I also replaced the Intake Rubber Boot).

Problem solved!

PS: Agree with G.A.S. Rebuild kit for DISA. Highly recommended...

Even with so much modification to my 3.0, hesitation and stalling still occur. I have pretty much replaced everything, and still randomly here and there I get a hesitation, or a stall. My stalls are usually at idle. In a parking lot or pulling into a driveway. My hesitations happen during low rpm acceleration usually with light throttle.

I am in the process of removing my intake manifold, and replacing all vacuum lines and gaskets. ICV was replaced, however issues still occurred.

I’ve done a fair amount of research, and found that multiple M54 owners complained of these same issues. My E53 has a manual gear box. I don’t know if this is a manual thing only, or an automatic as well. My 2006 E46 ZHP auto never had these issues.

@happy: What is the last time you replaced your intake or exhaust cam sensor. you exactly describe the symptoms I had before I replaced my intake cam sensor on both of my ex-wives (I said X5 but it’s funnier in the way google transcribed it)

Within the last 1000 miles. Real-time scans show no irregularities. This issue is very strange!? A year can go by and nothing (note: I only put 500 - 1000 miles per year). However the sensors are new.

I can give a description though. Let’s say she all warmed ready to go and I’m out having some fun. A couple of full throttle environments just for kicks. With the high octane fuel here in Texas and all the methanol I am throwing at her, she’s running pretty rich! Great for a forced induction setup!

However, when coming back to earth. That’s when I might experience a hiccup. But I feel it shouldn’t be.

My first repair on my X was intake cam sensor. I would stall when I would give a little gas for example move forward one car length to get ready to turn left at a light controlled intersection.

I got errors but just misfire random cylinder but the code led me to xoutpost where somebody had the same code solved by intake cam sensor.

Bought an OE sensor via Amazon ( not prime) and the problem went away. Wife's car had a similar error a year or so later. I put my sensor in her car and got a new one for me.

So for random stall @ slow speed especially if you are at idle and give a little gas to move into a parking spot for example, than 80% chance it's cam sensor.
