Easy way to get a new key

Not sure how many members know this but here it is:
Yes, there are ways to get the key other than a dealer but there is always a chance it won't work.
Also, most local dealers will charge you and arm and a leg unles you have some sort of discount.
Over the last few years I've bought 4 keys (for various BMW's) online from this dealer and they have very good pricing and easy process:
You order key on their website, submit photo of your driver licence and proof of ownership with VIN (title or registration or insurance card etc...) to their email adresss and few days later cut key comes in mail.
It also comes completely ready (no need to sync it), at least I never had to.

I just got a back up key for my newly purchased 2006 X5. It came with one good working remote key and I didn't want to spend $180 so I went with "door and ignition key" for $73 shipped.
This key opens the door mechanicaly and starts the car. It also has small light strobe (you press BMW logo). I imagine it's there so you don't scratch the paint in the dark by trying to find the lock hole.
Anyway, just wanted to share this easy process of getting a key.

If you DO get the $180 diamind remote key, while you also won't need to sync it with the EWS to get the car to start with the new key, you will need to sync the key to the remote entry (FZV) system. Easy to do - no computer needed.

I think you're correct. Of 4 keys I got in past, 2 were remote. It's been a while and I don't remeber If I had to sync them.
I just never want to mess with ebay or wherever some people get them, them cut them etc...
With this key I can got to any dealer with my receipt if something is wrong.

Small correction as wpoll pointed out: the remote key needs to be synced to GM which is easy enough but it does come ready to start the car and unlock door mechanicaly.

It's no worries, but thanks for updste.
I really just need the vallet key to hide safely inside my x5 somewhere.
I have an older battery replaceable type key fob hidden on x5 already, in case I ever needed to get into my x5 (say if I lost my keys while away from home) and now this way I will have a vallet key to let me drive it home.
