Back to factory sub
 

So, purchased a 2006 4.4i, NAV, with sub(not sure if all versions come with one or not). Problem is, some clown did a hack job and put in a POS of a system using the stock radio. Now I’m trying to get it back to factory specs. No, I don’t have all of the parts: 6 disc changer, and possible a non working amp, to include stuff I don’t know I need yet.
So, to shorten this long story, since they hacked up the wiring harness, and I have parts of a wiring harness to try and repair, I’m looking for your opinion and is it possible at the same time to piece together a wiring harness or just find another 2006 and take the whole wiring harness to do the job right.

Thoughts, ideas, advice.

It may help to post some pics of the extent of the damage to the wiring harness. IMO, if it's bad enough then it would be safest to replace the whole loom. Don't get me wrong, it will require a ton of work (removing interior) and time, but in the end I think you will be happiest with a complete loom.

You’re probably right. Better to get the whole wiring harness and replace it.

What wire harnesses is goofed up?
And are you sure you want to go back to the factory sub? It's not really that good. Underwhelming.

Clockwork has a good point. I have the factory DSP/sub system and it sounds great for a factory system but if you are planning on a HU upgrade (Android) then you will be running new wiring anyway. I just did this and it's an all day affair. I may retrofit my enclosure for a real sub in the future. Once I get the DSP figured out, then I can make my decision.

I see no reason to invest time, energy or effort into going back to stock. It's like trying to get back with your ex, ex, ex-girlfriend.

Besides, you have the perfect excuse to upgrade! :D

A working factory NAV is nice in a nostalgic sense...but by todays standards you might as well be reading from a stone tablet.

The factory audio system is very underwhelming and you would be much better off with aftermarket speakers, even some cheapies. Plus it won't have bluetooth, USB etc,. No sense in going that route in my eyes.

I'm getting ready to tear out the factory system from "Swamp Thing" and this week I started to look at audio options.

There is a 7" android head unit you can buy on Amazon for about $60 that would work great as a budget solution.

Hertz makes some very good sounding low cost speakers and amps. I installed a set of 6.5" components in my e46 convertible this summer and I was quite pleased with the sound for the money spent.

To answer “where” the hack job is, it’s where the amp, NAV, and all of that stuff is at. Looks like someone gutted a robot.

If you like the look of the NAV but want the upgraded features, just buy a BlueBus device and connect it to the DSP cable in trunk and voila, you have modern features with classic e53 interior look
