Hi danny_acs, I am experiencing this on my 05 4.8is with roughly the same mileage (135k) what exactly did CPC Performance Engineering adjust with the eccentric valve shaft motor? or did they just replace it?

Hi YETTI, they said that they were able to adjust it, but also said that if it happens again, it will need replacing.

Three years on, it has been ok, HOWEVER, recently noticed a similar knocking sound when pressing the accelerator sharply. So when I step on it, 2-3 knocks and then the RPM's jump.. I guess I'll have to visit them again..

Do you know exactly what they did to adjust it? I was trying to find out more about the adjustments to try and make them on my car, but cant seem to find what exactly to adjust. Any help is appreciated

Hey Yetti, sorry for the late reply (I don't check often), but I don't really know to be honest. They only charge a couple of hours labour if I recall correctly. I can try to find out. A good independent BMW garage should know it, and it doesn't take long at all like I said. Do you plan to do it yourself though?

That would be great if you can find out any more information! The only adjustments that I have seen you can do to the valvetronic system is to reset the adaptations/position values with a bmw scanner or ISTA. So I am wondering if that’s what they did to your car or if there is another adjustment that can be made to it that I am not aware of.

So this has now been fixed, and I'm reporting for the benefit of everyone else that might have this issue in the future.

CPC Performance Engineering in Amersham near London took the car and inspected it. It turned out that the eccentric valve shaft had a lot of wear. They adjusted the motor on the left bank, so the knocking is gone for now. They advised that if comes back, the shaft will need to be replaced, which is an expensive job... Many thanks to them, professional job!

I'm sorry but there is no such thing as 'adjusting' the eccentric valve servo motor. they must have done something else like reset adaptation/relearn.
When your eccentric valve shaft is worn, you can perform ISTA/D eccentric intermediate lever wear test to determine. the solution is your replace all parts.

BTW @OP , your original video has been nuked. You can also subscribe to thread notifications which email you if new posts.

They're probably talking about adjusting the valve lift. I did this within a year of getting my N62.

Ah, I remember that function. One can adjust the minimum position of the eccentric cam - to make the idle sound a little more aggressive, but there's no actual performance benefit. I believe that only comes into place once the engine oil is warmed up ?

YETTI 01-04-2024 07:22 PM

What did you guys adjust the valve lift to?

YETTI 01-04-2024 09:51 PM

And is the diesel like noise coming from the eccentric shaft harmful to the engine or just an annoying noise?
