Coolant reservoir leaking again, albeit after 4 years since replacement (from dealer) :yikes:. This time around I’ll purchase from FCPEuro and never spend again if this damn thing leaks. The last time it leaked I replaced the cap with 80 pressure version but that didn’t help apparently. The prices have gone up significantly. Last time it was around $70 and now $110 :wow:. This is original BMW. I might just replace with much cheaper after market since OEM has proven not to be special in this case.

I've thought about switching to Evans coolant to help keep pressure off the system and extend the life of this system.



Have you considered that?

I have come to automatically replace it every 100,000 miles. I think the more heat/cool cycles on the system, the quicker they stress crack.

if it wasn't for the poor reviews I've read about them, I would be all over the Mishimoto aluminium expansion tanks.

I guess I should just pull the trigger and find out myself.

Now that sounds very interesting 🤔. I might just experiment since I’ve had enough of the bloody plastic trash.

Ok, I usually look but in this case I was lazy, is the Mishimoto Aluminum tank a direct fir? Sounds kind of cool [emoji106]

That said when I did my cooking system refresh I went with the lower bar pressure cap and a 90c stat - so far so good and I have a bunch of miles on it! I’ve too have considered taking the plunge and moving to the Evans waterless coolant... haven’t done it yet, bit pricey and the prep I hear can be tedious to really make sure you have all of the coolant out of the system.

Yep. Most of the cooling system is on a 100k+/- schedule on our Bimmers. Red is overdue @ 125,000 but it does have a < 5000 mile URO expansion tank on it. :rofl:

Poor girl has been getting put on the back burner too long. Going to have to put my foot down with the wife and get a couple weekends in the garage. :rofl::bustingup

You're not alone. My '97 528 E39 has been sitting in the garage with new replacement parts worth over $1k, just waiting to be installed - for nearly 9 months :D. My lady has a way of spinning up something to distract me ;). It was better when the kids were in house :rofl:.

That's why mine gets the 428i :thumbup: and has had 3 of the 4 Bimmers in the ownership history. I may be crazy, but not stupid ;)
